I was looking for a book that presented logically the author's thoughts and findings on the crop circle phenomenon. Michael Glickman does just that. The book is well organized, reads well and has good photographs and illustrations. I especially liked the way in which the overlays were placed on top of the photos to explain the geometrical relationships. My only complaint is that the book wasn't at least four times longer with more crop circles being explained in this same manner. He said in the Introduction: "As I revised this manuscript, I cut it mercilessly, knowing that it had to be leaner and less of a year-by-year catalogue than my original draft." All I can say is bring on the original draft. I read it too quickly and now I am ready to reread it. I would highly recommend this book as a "feet on the ground" way of making some sense of these miraculous events.

I have studied and researched crop circles for years and I have yet to come across a book as beautifully written and illustrated as this. Michael Glickman goes beyond the usual "ideas" behind the crop circle phenomenon and ventures into breaking down, in layman's terms, the geometry and meaning (by his personal experience) of the designs. Being trained as an architect, he is able to relate the difficulty we would have, in creating these most extraordinary pieces of art.
His command of the English language and his reverence for the designs, the skills behind them, leads us to believe he was chosen to assist us in our understanding. I too wish the book had been longer; you can read it in one sitting but the beauty remains in referring to it's contents over and over again. I would only hope, everyone pick this book up, read it, cherish it and know it is only the beginning. Thank you Michael.....

Mr. Glickman's special gift in regard to the Crop Circle phenomenon is his willingness to let his love affair with the circlemakers shine forth for all to see. I believe that for whatever reason Mr. Glickman has a special and unique relationship to the entire phenomenon. To me the book is not a third-hand account of a paranormal phenomenon. It is about a man's special relationship with a special phenomenon. Step by step chronologically Mr. Glickman walks us through the journey he has taken in trying to decipher the messages sent to us in these agricultural mandalas. Each time he uses optimism and hope in his understanding of the patterns it seems he (we) is rewarded with another clue. In the final chapter he shares with us his entire process, from inception to understanding. surrounding a recent pattern which is one of the most fascinating and direct messages to us from these entities to date. This understanding comes about through a team effort via other circle readers, perhaps in itself sending us a message on how we are to proceed in our understanding of messages from beyond. But it seems that the makers have sent Mr. Glickman a direct and personal invitation as well - no longer able to walk, Mr. Glickman stoically refuses to trample the crop with his wheelchair and thus has been unable to visit the crop circles he so completely reveres. And yet in this one supremely tantalizing piece, which is outlined wonderfully in the book, the circlemakers have done something very unusual -- they formed the piece to encompass the main road within the glyphs' confines, thus allowing Mr. Glickman to visit the piece in person. Along with a story he reveals about a direct image of a circle glyph being beamed into his living room we begin to see a pattern of an ongoing playful interaction between a force beyond our comprehension and a man very much within it. Perhaps there are chosen prophets, after all....

Glickman's newest book on the 'crop circle' phenomenon is a great starting point for anyone who still thinks that these increasingly complex patterns are made by groups of people...out in the fields...in the middle of the night...without being detected...year after year...anonymously, with no interest in fame or even recognition for their sublime creations (and no revenue, none are copyrighted either).
In fact, Glickman makes an excellent point early on: what may be just as interesting as the phenomenon itself - is the ability of so many people to pretend it isn't happening...or that it's been 'solved'. This book is far from exhaustive, many areas of research aren't even mentioned. This is not because the author (a former architect and designer) is uninformed, he has been visiting, photographing and studying crop circles for 20 years. Lucid, concise and copiously illustrated with photos and diagrams, this slim volume will crack a complacent head wide open!

Mr. Glickman has written simply the most beautifully written book on Crop Circles I have read. Full of information and his viewpoint on the Circles after over 20 years of research on them. I strongly urge that anyone interested in this subject buy this masterpiece.

Michael Glickman's most recent book _Crop Circles: The
Bones of God_ is truly extraordinary and will long be considered a classic -- a beautifully conceived and executed book. I've been in the fields, attended the conferences, and read Glickman's other books, as well as John Michell's and Allan Brown's study of _Crooked Soley_, which is terrific, and the general literature, and recognize Glickman's further elaboration of all the earlier studies here as a very significant contribution. Based on Glickman's lectures, that I've heard, but particularly in this book, I'm keenly aware of what an excellent, patient teacher he is. Beyond that he has an amazing sense of how to build a picture from fundamentals through interpretation. This is a great job! As an architect, he is extraordinarily aware of just how wonderful these "pictures in the fields" really are. I highly recommend this book to everyone with any interest in anomalous phenomena. Regardless of their initial viewpoint, they'll be entertained and informed. At a minimum, their sense of wonder will be fed.

It is an interesting book, about 160 pages, with many beautiful pictures. It will be difficult to believe that all these crop circles were created by people or some known natural phenomenon. The author with an architect background tells about, what he has learnt about crop circles and about his own and others reaction on them since the year 1990. This book is equally good as the other books I have read about the mystery. There is no summer without the crop circles in England. I would highly recommend this book for those who wants get an insight into the mystery of crop circles in southern England.

Well, Glickman's book is definitely beautiful, but there's not a lot of academic value under the covers. I certainly enjoyed reading it and looking at the pictures, but I walked away with little more than a pedestrian analysis of a few selected circles of the mid-1990s. Sure, he's a famous circle investigator, but I didn't dog-ear a single page. There are much more thorough books out there for newbies, for sure.
It's pretty, it feels good in your hands, but don't expect to be deeply educated on the phenomenon by the time you put it down. I say that it's a nice addition to a growing library, but new readers would be better served with other, more comprehensive titles. |
