We have an old bearclaw bathtub so we need two shower curtains, one for each side of the tub. We bought one Croscill Fabric Shower Curtain/Liner, and one InterDesign Fabric Waterproof Shower Curtain. They are both 100% polyester, but could not be more different. Croscill is probably twice as thick, actually feels like fabric, and has metal grommets for the shower curtain hooks. InterDesign feels almost like it's vinyl, not fabric. It feels very thin, and has reinforced seams for the holes for shower hooks. It's not waterproof - the outside face is damp to the touch after we shower, whereas the Croscill one is moderately dry.

Both of them are fabric, so a bit of moisture does get through. But, the amount of seepage not enough to get anything else wet unless it's actually touching the fabric. The seepage is notably greater for the InterDesign version but not a concern for us because the curtain is not touching anything. We have very low-flow shower heads, so it may be worse for others.

We've had these for two months, and the InterDesign is already growing mold, while the Croscill is not. We haven't yet washed them so I can't rate their ability to withstand washing, or rust around the grommets (for the Croscill). Hence, I have given it 4 stars pending those tests. But, so far if I were to buy these over, I would definitely buy two Croscills and avoid the InterDesign.

Ever had a vinyl shower curtain liner always kick the fancy hooks off the bar when trying to unfold it, and you didn't want to buy more hooks because so much was spent on the nice ones? I did. And every time I wanted to shower I'd have to be real careful because the ridigidity of the vinyl liner would cause at least one hook to almost release, but usually allow to release two or three. So, naked I would stand in the shower, hooking the curtain back on before I could go ahead and turn on the water.

That is, until I switched to fabric. Now the curtain can be put outside the tub, inside the tub, drawn closed, opened, and those fancy hooks stay right where they ought to. I love it!

This particular curtain has a string of lead weights sewn into the bottom hem, which at first I was concerned about but there's no evidence of unraveling -- I would expect the lead to remain sewn in after several washings if not until the curtain is simply too old to keep around!

Also know that the curtain is not waterproof, it just keeps 99.5% of it on one side which is fine, the curtain feels a bit moist on the other after a shower is all. Light shining through the curtain offers a pleasant glow, like a nice window curtain, which is something I'd never had with any of the many, many vinyl curtains I've been through.

I'm a fabric shower liner user for life.

This is a lovely item. The monochromatic woven stripe adds some dimension to this well sized (70 x 72 inch) fabric shower curtain liner. The top gromets and bottom weights provide a nice drape for easy of installation that keep the fabric close to the tub (rather than the bather) when in use. Although not 100 percent waterproof (what fabric curtain is), it's a good 98 percent waterproof and it's pretty enough to be a shower curtain...and the price is good. Additionally, I received the item within days of order.

I have four of these and love them. I do not use two curtains -- just this one). I actually ironed the pleats in so it hangs like a drape and when not using can be pushed back against the wall on the ouside of the tub -- very attractive. I've gotten so many comments on it. The ironed pleats have remained after many washings (cold water, bleach, hang to dry). The package said not to bleach but I use bleach every time I wash it (every few weeks). You will not be disappointed.

This shower curtain works just as I had hoped it would. I had a problem with a plastic curtain leaking water onto the floor. That's not the case with this item. It has, so far, eliminated my problem. It's much prettier than the plastic and even glides better on the rod. It has subtle satin stripes running through it. It really does work, even though it is polyester and not vinyl. Also, it hasn't gotten any mold yet, after a month's use in our humid climate.

UPDATE: 9-24-08-This product didn't perform as I had hoped, after all. It is not waterproof. It started to absorb water after I washed it the first time. It's never performed as it originally did before it was washed. I've had to put a vinyl liner behind it to prevent shower water from getting outside the tub.

My husband had heard that vinyl shower curtain liners leach toxic chemicals into the sewer water, and asked me to find a linen one... this one is polyester and works great! Water does not leak out, it does not get that gross mildew stuff on it, and it's very light and dries fast. We have a small nyc bathroom, and this light, air curtain is much easier to deal with than a liner and a curtain (though you could add a curtain to this, too).

I no longer buy plastic shower curtain liners due to the outgassing odors that the new shower curtains emit. The smell is so strong and toxic it makes me ill. So now I only buy the fabric liners which do a decent job of keeping shower droplets/spray in. My last liner bit the dust so this one was an excellent replacement for an excellent price ($11) with free shipping and no tax. I highly recommend.
