I added pictures because much to my surprise even though there are a ton of reviews for this item so far there are no customer photos which, I much appreciate when making a purchase.
The reason for the star deduction is that it is not water proof like advertised on amazon.com. It is however, water RESISTANT like advertised on the product package. So...amazon should update their description so that people can stop marking down the star value of this item due to advertisement.
When showering the splash from that will not go through much. However, if you hold the shower head and directly spray the curtain quite a bit of water will go through. I don't know why you would want to do that since that is not practical use but, I of course tried it. I am guessing that others who have given this product mark downs also tried this to test the water proofing.
The texture of this curtain is much like that of a fancy table cloth. I like it though.
Both of them are fabric, so a bit of moisture does get through. But, the amount of seepage not enough to get anything else wet unless it's actually touching the fabric. The seepage is notably greater for the InterDesign version but not a concern for us because the curtain is not touching anything. We have very low-flow shower heads, so it may be worse for others.
We've had these for two months, and the InterDesign is already growing mold, while the Croscill is not. We haven't yet washed them so I can't rate their ability to withstand washing, or rust around the grommets (for the Croscill). Hence, I have given it 4 stars pending those tests. But, so far if I were to buy these over, I would definitely buy two Croscills and avoid the InterDesign.
That is, until I switched to fabric. Now the curtain can be put outside the tub, inside the tub, drawn closed, opened, and those fancy hooks stay right where they ought to. I love it!
This particular curtain has a string of lead weights sewn into the bottom hem, which at first I was concerned about but there's no evidence of unraveling -- I would expect the lead to remain sewn in after several washings if not until the curtain is simply too old to keep around!
Also know that the curtain is not waterproof, it just keeps 99.5% of it on one side which is fine, the curtain feels a bit moist on the other after a shower is all. Light shining through the curtain offers a pleasant glow, like a nice window curtain, which is something I'd never had with any of the many, many vinyl curtains I've been through.
I'm a fabric shower liner user for life.
