5.0 out of 5 stars Good conversation piece and great way to save spare change
Telephone works well and looks and feels like a real pay phone. It does double as a bank and the family puts extra change in it to save up for DVD rentals and pizza nights. The red phone looks great against the yellow wall in our kitchen. The Amazon price including shipping is still less than anywhere else including Ebay ($68). The only drawbacks are the chrome accents...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but kinda cheap...
Nice reproduction, but made out of cheap looking plastic. Ring tone is modern style, instead of old fashioned ring.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not sure of operation, but was made of cheap plastic, November 9, 2004

From the look of this phone, I was hoping that the phone would be more of a metalic quality. While some parts of the phone are metal, there is actually a lot of plastic. I took it out of the box and it just had that cheap feeling to it. I do not really return things often, but this went back right away. Nothing against the seller -- I received prompt delivery and processing of my return -- this is just not a high quality product. I must admit that I did not even plug it in, so I can not vouch for call clarity, etc. Overall, I was very disappointed in the quality of this product and would not recommend it if you are looking for something of substance.

4.0 out of 5 stars A plastic-take on an old classic, January 31, 2007

This review is from: Crosley CR56 1950's Pay Phone -Black (Office Product)
I love the look of this phone but was surprised that is is almost entirely plastic and does not have that 'heavy' authentic feel to it. Despite, this phone is charming and doubles as a bank. When you drop a coin in the slot you can hear an old fashioned CLING. My toddler quickly wore the cling out but it still gets many compliments. Easy to hang on a wall and fun to talk on. Satisfactoy quality overall.

1.0 out of 5 stars Plastic junk for a big price tag, July 22, 2007

This item arrived at my house yesterday and I was so excited to pull it out of the box, and then my mood changed drastically. I was very disappointed by the plastic everywhere. The hand held ear piece was the sturdiest portion of the phone. The cradle the handpiece rests on was plastic with a crome colored paint coating. I've seen McDonalds Happy Meal toys that were better put together than this thing. The phone has lots of eye appeal but it won't last in any sort of daily use. I hung the phone on the wall without any difficulty and my daughter and I placed 13 coins in the top of the phone. The wonderful sound effect that happened with the drop of each coin ended after the 13th coin. I really expect something that I pay over $70 for to last for more than 5 minutes, call me crazy!!!! Sound quality of the one and only phone call we made was good but I'm sure that soon the cradle would be snapped off in the floor if anyone didn't use extreme care when hanging up the phone. Needless to say the phone is going back!

4.0 out of 5 stars Crosley CR56 1950's Pay Phone -Black, April 5, 2007
This review is from: Crosley CR56 1950's Pay Phone -Black (Office Product)
I like how the phone looks like the older models. I like how it is very light. What I did not like was how it looked too plastic. I wish it looked more metal.

Over all. I am very happy.

I thought the phone would have been built tougher- it's all plastic. It looks and works good, I only hope it holds up over the long run. For the price I would have thought they could of used a light-weight metal.

My review is pretty well the same as the rest, the phone looks amazing, but sounds terrible. Sounds like someone's cell phone is ringing, not what you'd expect to come out of this thing from it's appearance.

We really enjoy the phone. It is quite a discussion piece and the quality is very good. Two minor complaints: (1) The phone is plastic and "purists" will remember the originals were steel. This is not a big issue though - my kids think the phone is great and show it off to new guests who arrive at our house. (2) The ring tone is all wrong for this type of phone. It should have some ringing tone that sounds like phones from the 1950's.

Overall, though, we really like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Put on Wall, Lightweight, Looks Good, June 1, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Expected it to be more heavy duty, but it's made from lightweight plastic. It is easy to use, and the quality is good. Can adjust handset volume and ringer volume. A bell dings like a little kid's toy when you put coins in.
