I haven't used all of the features on this item yet, but as far as straight forward basic playing of records, it's exactly what I was expecting. The built in speakers are quite small, and don't produce a lot of sound. Upon plugging in a pair of headphones, the volume was quite nice. But I'm not one to sit still and just listen to my records. So, for now, I grabbed a small boom box that I had collecting dust and used the 3.5mm to 3.5mm wire (that was included) to jack the audio out to the audio in on the boombox to amplify the sound a bit. And that's worked fine for now (albeit, not perfect). But again, I knew this would probably be the case when I ordered it.

I've yet to install the audio program that came with it, but looking at the specs, it appears to work on both mac and pc's. From seeing images of the audio program, it looks like the free audacity program that you can download online. I'm not sure if there's any additions to it. But I like and enjoy using audacity.

I also like that it included the usb cable - since it's a "Type A" to "Type B" USB connection that's not overly common anymore.

As you can see in the photos - the lid of the player DOES need to be open while playing, and actually tilts back quite far, so that the record can clear the back side of the top (if you're looking at the record player from the right side of it, think 2 o'clock for the angle).

The player does have an autostop when the record is done playing. But the arm does NOT move automatically back to the rest. But I believe that was also included in the description.

Overall I love it (about a week now of owning it). If anything changes, I will update my review. And the only thing that kept it from getting a 5 star was the low volume levels (but like i said, it was not completely unexpected).

Hope you all enjoy it!

**An update has been added at the end**

I have a small space and I needed something small and portable that I could tuck away when not in use. I decided on this model, ordered it and received it in two days. Opened it, set it up and nothing...dead out of the box. I called Crosley and they said they would have a tech call in 4-5 business days! I hung up and called problem, we'll send you another one. I had the new one by the next business day with no hassle, thanks Amazon for the great customer service. I still haven't heard from the Crosley tech!

The second turntable works as expected. It's perfect for what I need. Does it sound like an expensive or fancy stereo system? No, but I didn't buy it expecting it to. That's like comparing apples to oranges. If I had the space I would certainly opt for something more substantial but, I don't. I've played about 30 records on it so far with no problems.

On some of the older records or poorly mixed records, I have to crank the sound a bit but I have it sitting downstairs and I can hear it when I go upstairs (having a small house probably has something to do with that though). I personally think albums recorded and pressed in the 60s, 70s and 80s sound best on this system. The few new records I have tend to be a bit noisy especially with headphones.

I haven't tried the included software yet so I can't tell you if it works or not. It wasn't a feature I was interested in when choosing this system but I suppose it's nice to have the option.

So far, I'm happy with the purchase. It's perfect for anyone who doesn't have a lot of space but still wants to listen to their vinyl.

**UPDATE: After using the unit for roughly a month, records started skipping.

I purchased this accidentally, and when it got here I was really curious so I opened it carefully and take a few listen before I return this.

1. It's a nice looking record player! I'm in college and it goes well with my room style (in fact, any style you have).
2. Very light and PORTABLE! I could carry this with me to my friend's house, hook a nice speaker and I can have a record player anywhere.. but probably not a good idea if you have to carry your vinyls around, but you get the idea.
3. Sounded "vintage" - I have no idea how to put this into words, but the little built in speakers, they had a small "echo" to it and made it sounded "oldie, vintage" OK probably that doesn't help :/ anyways..

1. A lot of bad reviews, including this record has a ceramic needle and well, it's heavier than those magnetic/metal needle so, it will damage your records, faster (depends how often you listen to them). But NOT TOO WORRY, this is still a good player if you just want to listen/play records.
2. all plastic, meaning.. this is not that durable, but for the price, it's not something you would want to fix, you would simply throw this and buy a new one. If you want a long lasting one, invest in something more expensive like $200+ turntables.
3. It's a belt driven, so don't try your DJ wannabe act with this player.
4. No matter how good your speakers/headphones are, the sound won't get any better.
Ok, let me elaborate.. The little speakers will sound like, well.. little speakers and could be worse than your awesome premium desktop speakers; to be honest, my macbook pro speakers sounded better compared to the built in speakers on Crosley's..
I plugged in my B&W P3 on the headphone jack, and boom!
