4.0 out of 5 stars Crosley Kettle Classic Desk Phone
Pros: The phone looks great with antique furniture, and the sound quality is fantastic. Cons: The receiver isn't designed so it can rest on your shoulder -- you have to hold it. The body doesn't have an indentation in the back (below the cradle) so you can easily pick it up. And the ringer is really loud (authentic, but startling). Overall, we like the phone but a few...

This is a very attractive phone to which I put a lot of effort into finding this style. It's location in my home is one where it is not used very often. In 3 months it was used less than half a dozen times. I was shocked and extremely disappointed to try to answer a call recently and hear nothing on the other end. The other caller was able to hear me. There was no...

Overall, we like the phone but a few minor design changes would make it perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Phone, March 17, 2007
Very heavy and well built phone, great ringer sound, brings back the old days ... Kids hate it because it has a cord, now I need a black and white TV so I can finally have my phone and TV all to myself.

Great Phone.

This review is from: Crosley Kettle Classic Desk Phone CR62-Brushed Chrome (Office Product)
There was no dial tone. Even trying different lines and phone jacks did not help. There is no damage to the phone. I have been trying to contact the seller: Northstar Electronics, but have been unable to get through on the phone number listed on Amazon or receive a reply via their e-mail contact. Even if I decide to try to have the phone replaced/repaired by the original manufacture, I will be out another $20 for shipping costs they require. This has been a complete waste of money and a total disappointment!

Update: 5/2008-Almost a year later and I never heard back from Northstar Electronics despite many attempts to contact them. I hope the new seller listed on this page is more helpful! I did end up sending the phone to the manufacture (Crosley). It cost me $20, but I did promptly receive a replacement phone which is still working. However, it is not used often and I keep waiting to hear nothing the next time I pick up the receiver. Good luck if you choose to buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars classic phone, November 6, 2006
This review is from: Crosley Kettle Classic Desk Phone CR62-Brushed Chrome (Office Product)
I have been very disappointed in this phone. I seem to have lost calls. I have been having difficulty with getting dial tones and having conversations suddenly stopped by phone cutting out. The phone looks good but it doesn't operate well and for the price you pay the phone should be good. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Feel like I just wasted away my money.

I just got my phone today and I'm ready to return it.

Reasons:

1. The web description of the phone is false. This phone does NOT come w/ the promised "cloth cord" shown on the picture, it's just the regular spring plastic one...A big detail for who wants a vintage look phone.

2. The body of the phone( since not in metal ) should be at least a stronger heavier plastic, great disappointment!

It looks and feel like a cheap toy phone you might give for babies to play, not at all like a antique. There is no shine or matte treatment to it either, just very ugly and cheap plastic.

If you want this phone I recommend the brushed chrome version, which is not as "vintage cool" as a color but it has a way better look and feel to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and functional, September 21, 2008
This product was fully working for me, no problems found yet. Beautiful look, beautiful sound, and unlike what some others have said, the ringer is totally not that loud. Not much more to say.. was definitely worth the money, imo!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good price for a good replica, May 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As noted by others, the included cord is curly plastic (not straight cloth-covered), the matte black plastic does not look exactly like old bakelite, and there is no recess behind the cradle for easy lifting. But, the phone closely mimics the antique, looks great in a room filled with vintage furniture and costs 1/5 the price of a rebuilt original phone. It worked perfectly out of the box and the old-fashioned bell ringer is just neat!

The 'kettle classic' desk phone brings back the idea that an everyday object can work well and also be pleasing to the eye, unlike many of today's styleless and charmless utility objects. Simple to set up, simple to use, it works very well and sounds better to the person called than does a genuine antique telephone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sell phone :), July 10, 2010

It's about half the price as Pottery Barn's similar Euro model, works completely as expected, and adds what's sort of a novelty to the living room or den. This land line, corded Crosley telephone is build solidly, just like other Crosley products I own. It has an actual bell so you can tell your mobile phone isn't ringing, push buttons that look like the traditional rotary dial, coily cord connection to the base, accepts call waiting and the volume is good.

It's just a pleasant change and an artistic throwback.
