I purchased this piece as a stand for my new Teac LP-R400. (Another amazing item.) I was looking for the smallest piece that could hold the Teac and some records, plus a place to put vinyl record cleaners, etc.

Quality: The finish is even and the materials are sturdy enough for all that I want. This is not a flimsy item.

Assembly: I was concerned with a review on one of the other Crosley cabinets that it was very difficult to assemble and definitely required two people. I don't know how they were assembling it, but if one follows the directions one person can easily put it together in under 1/2 hour. It DID take me a while to figure out that the nut locks were already IN the pieces as I was looking for them in a bag.

Finished look: This is sitting next to my old fashioned stereo cabinet that I can't bear to replace and also my baby grand piano. Both of those items are beautifully finished and this piece fits in just fine (although somewhat hidden behind a floor stereo speaker.)

Cons: As described, the item comes with a shelf above the record storage. The knob makes it appear like a pull out drawer, but it is a pull down door with a shelf behind. I was expecting a drawer, but that was my fault for not reading the description well enough. Unlike the other pieces that have just the open shelf, at least this one has a door and it will be fine for storing the LP vinyl record cleaning supplies and extra phonograph needles that I purchased.

Bottom Line: Love it.

Purchased this for a Christmas gift just last year. And have already thrown it away. In putting it together it was not looking like it would hold up. And that it did not, the weight of albums bowed the bottom. And in moving it away from wall afew inches to clean behind, top broke off and split at sides!

This piece is made almost entirely of pressboard. Visible exterior surfaces are wood grain veneer stained a deep red, but the grain is not that of cherry wood. Interior shelf tops and other interior surfaces are simply stained and varnished pressboard, but their finish is not too bad. The piece is held together with cam bolts/locks, which seem to be pretty standard for inexpensive, ready-to-assemble furniture. Assembly is straightforward, but rather difficult due to the possibility of the cam bolts breaking through the veneer on the other side of the board if screwed in too far. You cannot "feel" when they are all the way in, because the resistance to turning does not change. On the first bolt I almost broke through the veneer of the tabletop, stopping only when I heard a cracking sound and felt a bulge on the other side of the board. On subsequent bolts I was more careful, but this meant that the cam locks would not pull the pieces together tightly, and then some trial and error was necessary to determine exactly how far in each bolt needed to go. Unfortunately, the cam locks are not designed for repeated fastening and unfastening, so one of them broke during the process (necessitating a trip to the hardware store), and those remaining are probably not holding as strongly as they should. Nonetheless, with the piece fully assembled, it seems to be sturdy enough for its intended purpose, and it looks nice, especially after applying some furniture wax. Overall it is an okay piece of furniture but seems a bit cheaply made for the price.

PROS: I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. Assembly is simple and the finished product is very sturdy. I own the matching Crosley CR72 record player and set it on top of this cabinet without any worries. I've read reviews that claim this product is flimsy but that isn't right at all. As long as it's properly put together it can hold just about anything. I also went with the free shipping and much to my surprise it was at my door not only in less than a week but also on a Saturday!

CON: I was instantly disappointed when I saw the box they chose to ship it in busting open under the weight. Even the delivery guy couldn't stop commenting on what a bad shipment job it was. Actually his exact words were "the worst box I've seen". Oddly enough when I opened it there was another box inside and it was completely untouched. Why they chose to place the sturdy box in a gawky paper thin one I'll never know. Had I not lucked out and got an extra cautious delivery guy it definitely would have been ruined.

The cabinet looks nice, but it was a bit hard to put together. I couldn't get the last 2 "screws" inserted, and needed my husband's help. Also, the nails that attach a small block to the drop down drawer's hinge, are too short. Because of this, the block will have to be glued to keep it attached.

The unit is functional and easy to assemble. The overall appearance is low quality except for the door. The veneer is paper thin and many edges are painted particle board. I expected solid wood legs.

My Crosley cabinet arrived on the stated day, and the shipping carton was a little worse for wear, but the cabinet itself was packed safely in a second (Crosley) container inside.

Assembly is quick and easy if one is used to the typical "knock-down" style furniture of the day.

Don't let the finish in the photo scare you off from purchasing oak. The actual cabinet is stained in a nice, golden oak color that is darker and warmer than the somewhat "over exposed" sample photo shown which looks more blond than oak. Unfortunately, it is not a genuine oak veneer but still looks pretty good.

All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase, especially since the $24 shipping charge was waived. A good value for $99.

Order while the free shipping is in effect or when offered!
