4.0 out of 5 stars Good spiritual reading, May 21, 2002
This review is from: The Cross and the Beatitudes: Lessons on Love and Forgiveness (Paperback)
Archbishop Sheen's short series of meditations on the Seven Last Words and the Seven Beatitudes is a good read for anyone who wishes to meditate further on Our Lord's Passion. Though he claims there is no connection between the two subjects other than his artificial construction, I believe that he saw a real connection that exists between the two. Some of his written information is contextual (such as the "mailed fist of Communism"), but when one spends time in contemplation, one will realize that his information is not as dated as it seems. A good read any time of the year, but recommended especially for Holy Week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple to Understand, May 15, 2006
This review is from: The Cross and the Beatitudes: Lessons on Love and Forgiveness (Paperback)
I've read other books on the beatitudes, but through Sheen's comparison to how Jesus lived the beatitudes on the cross, I really came to understand them much more deeply. This is a quick read and will help anyone grow spiritually and understand how to apply the Beatitudes to his or her life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lenten Spiritual Reading, February 25, 2008
This review is from: The Cross and the Beatitudes: Lessons on Love and Forgiveness (Paperback)
I am currently reading this book as part of my Lenten spiritual reading. Although I'm only on lesson three, I feel confident in recommending this book to anyone, regardless if you have someone you need to forgive or not. With this book, it is easy to see how to apply the lessons to your own life, and to think about where you might be more merciful towards others, or to "offer up" your suffering to Christ on the cross.

I really like Fulton Sheen and I have read a few of his books. He is so smart and interesting and such a spiritual person. I think he should be a saint. He really knows all about the Catholic religion and the faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Food for Meditation, April 6, 2009

This review is from: The Cross and the Beatitudes: Lessons on Love and Forgiveness (Paperback)
I stumbled upon this book while looking for another in the local Barnes and Noble bookstore, and as is sometimes the case, I take such stumbling to be the gift, or direction of the Holy Spirit, or at least of my Guardian Angel. I have caught a few of Bishop Sheen's shows rerun on EWTN and read part of Life is Worth Living. In this book, he has wonderful and powerful way of constructing these lessons. They have a peaceful, symmetrical construction that tends to help quiet the mind and helps you meditate on some of the inspired teaching that is captured in the pages of this book. I highly recommend this both for Lent and anytime your soul, mental, and emotional health could profit from some great meditation on the perfect witness Christ's death and last words were to his initial teaching of the Beatitudes during the Sermon of the Mount at the beginning of his earthly ministry. If you read this book and watch The Passion of the Christ shortly afterwards, I think you'll have a great renewal of your discipleship and commitment to Our Savior and God, Jesus Christ. Praise be to Jesus Christ! "Worthy is the Lamb . . . With your blood you purchased for God men of every race and tongue, of every people and nation." (Revelations 6: 12, 9)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cross and The Beatitudes:Lessons on Love and Forgiveness., October 4, 2011
This review is from: The Cross and the Beatitudes: Lessons on Love and Forgiveness (Paperback)
I am so blessed to have found this book or should I say the book found it's way to me.Archbishop Sheen(God Rest His Soul)Put together this beautiful little book that is great to mediate on,From The most Important words Christ had to say and Which Every Catholic should know and emulate,I love his tough Anti-Communist Stance and how tough he is on this ever increasing Secular World that is often Hostile to Religion specifically Christianity and more Specifically Catholicism. My only compliant would be how short it is and yet how wonderful,I must go back and re-read it again.
