This review is from: Cross C-Series Carbon Black Selectip Rolling Ball Pen (AT0395-3) (Office Product)
Writes nicely but it is a little uncomfortable to grip.Goes through ink quite quickly. However I am still happy with my purchase.

Cross still makes a great pen - here is another good one with one minor flaw,

I bought my very first Cross pen on Super Bowl Sunday, 1969. It was a birthday present for my best friend and he used it for all 4 years of college and all the way through to his MS and Phd at Penn State. Not bad for a $3.75 purchase! Along the way, I have purchased and been given gifts of a lot of Cross ballpoint and fountain pens and mechanical pencils. Every one has been of the highest quality - no exceptions.I fell in love with the design of C-Series, focusing on the really cool clip (very high-tech) and the great refill (even higher tech). It fits nicely on my chunky hand and, of course, it writes beautifully (hey, it is a Cross!)... So, why only 4 Stars - The black "Carbon" finish, while very beautiful in a NYC kind of way, the surface feel slippery and non-grippy. And, it's not just me. My wife, a died-in-the-wool cheap pen user grabbed it to write a check and commented, without any input from me, on how it slid in her fingers. I don't think it's that bad - I use it all the time but as a reviewer, I like to be as honest as possible. BTW - Cross also makes a C-Series pen with a dimpled surface over the black surface. It solves the problem, although it's not as pretty but I wish I had that one. So, maybe it's my dry skin but as good as this pen is, it could be (and has been) made better. My advice? Try it before you buy it!

I love this pen. This was my second one (I lost the first). It is beautiful and slightly flashy but subdued and tailored enough to work in all settings. I love to hand this pen to a student or colleague for their signature and watch their brief pause when they feel its heft and quality. Writes like a dream. I like the retractable tip-smooth as butter and no caps (I obviously lose things). Worth every penny and seems like a MUCH more expensive pen.

Excellent pen. It is heavy, excellent materials and construction. The ink is also perfect but you have to be carefull not to put it in your pocket with the tip open!

This is the C-Series Pen I Wish I Owned,

This review is from: Cross C-Series Rollerball Pen Champagne (Office Product)
I own the black C-Series Cross pen (see my review elsewhere) and bought it for its NYC chic black look and high tech cool clip. But I recently tried this version at a pen fair and fell in love with the dimpled, more grippy surface - much more comfortable in my hand than the black, non-dimpled one. I'm not in love with the champagne color (black is way too cool). But in the hand, it works for me better than the one I actually own. I may double down and buy this one and give teh black one away - who knows...OK, so this review is kind of a stretch since it's for a product I only road tested, not purchased. But you read and follow reviews of cars written by people who don't actually own the cars they write about. They are people who know how to evaluate cars and communicate effectively. I think, as a person who writes for a living and owns over a hundred pens, you can give me a pass on this one. At least, I hope so! Like the design? Like Cross quality? (Like that's a question...) Try the pen and decide how it feels. |
