Invaluable textbook for cross-cultural psychology instructors,
By Professor VDS (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cross-Cultural Psychology: Critical Thinking and Contemporary Applications (4th Edition) (Paperback)
This text has become an invaluable tool for the courses I teach in cross-cultural psychology, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Although many books purport to emphasize the integration of critical thinking skills with cross-cultural psychology, this is the only one that does so successfully. My students consistently rate it favorably, and I give it my highest recommendation.

The best in cross-cultural psychology,

This review is from: Cross-Cultural Psychology: Critical Thinking and Contemporary Applications (4th Edition) (Paperback)
Cross-Cultural Psychology by Shiraev and Levy is the best textbook available for this field. The book explains concepts and theories very well. Additionally, it provides the reader with a very practical understanding of the field.
I can readily imagine this book being used in counseling, clinical, or general psychology classes. In addition, I would argue that this book, even outside of the classroom, would be an excellent resource to keep on one's bookshelf. My strongest endorsement stands behind this well written book.

Outstanding Text,

This review is from: Cross-Cultural Psychology: Critical Thinking and Contemporary Applications (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
This book is a comprehensive text that is both approachable and informative. Its critical thinking emphasis on cross-cultural psychology lends it added value. It's nice to come across a cross-cultural book that neither panders to a specific minority group nor neglects that vast diversity that psychology professionals will no doubt encounter. I recommend this text to anyone looking to go into a psychology or sociology related field.

Wow, I read this book and then immediately bought one for my sister who is majoring in Psych. This is a great book for anyone (student or otherwise) who is interested in examining the concepts of cross-cultural psychology, its research methods, and how effects of culture influcences behavior, development, and disorders. This book is easy to comprehend and the exercises are very insightful. Psych books can be dry... this one is very engaging and entertaining!

Thinking critically about cultural diversity,
By toridori (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cross-Cultural Psychology: Critical Thinking and Contemporary Applications (4th Edition) (Paperback)
How refreshing to find a book about cultural diversity that isn't rife with "politically-correct" mumbo jumbo. Instead, this text emphasizes using critical thinking tools to incisively see through the fog of current academic and social fads and fashions.

Culturally speaking,
By Jonny Danger "jp" (LA, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cross-Cultural Psychology: Critical Thinking and Contemporary Applications (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
It is imperative as a burgeoning professional to understand the implications of treating clients that are not of my ethic or cultural background. This book provides real insight as well as day to day understandings of the interactions we all share, from our own biases to accepting others biases. As a person, it is imperative upon me to understand those around me. Thinking critically about these issues provided me with startling new insights into myself.

Excellent Tool,
By Samuel B. (Princeton) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cross-Cultural Psychology: Critical Thinking and Contemporary Applications (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
This book delivers on its promise to provide reviews and research in cross-cultural issues. It also explores various areas of the human psyche, and helps apply critical thinking to every day dilemmas when working with those from a culture other than our own.
Five stars for text and for excellent supporting documentation.

It is so incredibly refreshing to read a book on this topic that deals so frankly and courageously with important issues rather than tip-toeing around them. This is a great book for everyone to read: of all ethnic backgrounds and all ages. Very comprehensive, entertaining, and easy to read with up-to-date, practical applications that everyone can appreciate. Hats off the authors!
