In I'D TELL YOU I LOVE YOU, BUT THEN I'D HAVE TO KILL YOU, readers were welcomed to the Gallagher Academy, an all-girls school that is known for its emphasis on academics. What outsiders don't know is the school is actually training the young ladies to become spies. Gallagher Girls are trained in the martial arts, taught "real" history, learn political secrets, and are multilingual.

The second book, CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO SPY, the second book in the series, picks up shortly after the first book. Cammie Morgan and the other Gallagher students know how their school operates and are used to it being an all-girl campus. When guys from the Blackthorne Institute come to share their studies and their teachers, some of the girls get distracted while others get suspicious. Cammie is a bit of both camps. She appreciates the fact that the guy spies are smart and savvy, but she doesn't trust them. She kind of got off on the wrong foot with Zach, one of the spy-guys, and she can't stop thinking about Josh.

She also thinks her new schoolmates are hiding something -- and they might not be the only ones. Old photographs and overheard conversations make Cammie question her father's schooling and spy work. Will she ever find out what really happened to him?

When push comes to shove, the Gallagher Girls are here to save the day - and maybe have some fun along the way. CROSS MY HEART will please fans of the first Gallagher Girls novel. All of the books have a fun mix of spies, lies, and romance that pleases tweens, teens, and adults. Make sure to read the books in order:

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is AMAZING!, October 23, 2007
Seriously, Ally Carter has out done herself with "Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy"!
I started reading the book around 7 or 8 PM and stay up until 12 PM finishing it. I could not put it down even though I told myself many times, "Put down the book. It will be there tomorrow." It was just too addicting.
"Cross My Heart..." picks off where Ally Carter's first book "I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You" (now called LYKY) ends. After a hard winter break, Cammie's back at Gallagher Academy. She's still hurting from a break-up she did not want to happen and worried about CoveOp, her most challenging class. Loads of action happens during the 250 or so pages. I wish I could tell you more, but I'd ruin the entire book for you guys.
My mind is still reeling from finishing the book. It leaves you with some answers but even more questions.
If you haven't gotten a hold of the book yet, GO NOW!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spy School is Still Cool!, October 19, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Like the first book about the Gallagher Academy For Exceptional Young Women (I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You), this one is absolutely fantastic. There's a lot of action, laughs, covert ops and spy lingo. Of course, there are boy issues to sort through too. Cammie's a really great character: fun, lovable and relatable. I loved this book, and can't wait for the next one (there is going to be a next one, right?)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spys are back and sneakier than ever!, March 25, 2008
So... We are back at the Gallagher Academy, a secret spy school for girls, and we are reunited with all together almost-perfect spy, Cammie Morgan. Cammie's mother is the school principal, her father died on a secret mission, and a new teacher (Mr. Solomon) seems to be a little too familiar with Cammie's family. We start out the book with Cammie being tested to make sure that she will stay away and not communicate with "The Subject" aka Josh. Through the begining of the book we are taking part in weird happenings at the academy and then we are trying to find out what BLACKTHORNE really is. Once we find out that Blackthorne is a secret spy school for BOYS (thanks to Cammie's EXCELENT spywork) we also find out that the Blackthorne boys are coming to Gallagher and we don't know if they are there to stay. Cammie is introduced to a Blackthorne boy named Zach who seems to take a very strong interest in Cammie and becomes VERY suspicious. Cammie runs into Josh on a mission with Zach and leads him to believe that Zach is her Boyfriend. Bex, Liz and Massie all come back and are better friends then ever! Altogether, in the end of the day... it's a TRUE spy ending that you don't want to miss out on. Will Cammie be with Zach again? Will Cammie go back to Josh? Does Josh REALLY not remember Cammie's BIGGEST secret? We won't know FOR SURE unless we read this and it still keeps us guessing and waiting for Gallagher Girls book three to come out! Have fun!
I loved this book and i hope everyone else will too! Be sure to read it, the worst that will happen is that you won't like it ( yeah right!) and you can just put it down! This book deserves its five stars! I was worried that it wouldn't be as good as the first book but i was proven wrong! For ANY age.
I hope you enjoyed my review! Check out my others!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gallagher Girl ( this is for you girls), April 28, 2008
"Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy" is the awesome sequal to "I'd Tell You I Love You but than I'd Have to Kill You" both featureing Cammie Morgan in Ally Carters books.
Cammie finds her and her friends wondering why one of the corridors of the school is shut off to students. So, like good spys, they investigate.
They find the corridor stocked with stuff for students dorms.
Meanwhile Cammie's mom, headmistress of Gallagher Acadamy, shows Cammie a picture of her dad, who died while on a mission. In the picture he's with Mr.Soloman (who works a Gallagher now) and Mr.Soloman's shirt says BLACKTHORNE BOYS.
Cammie might of found out about another spy school for boys, has she.
All together add some romantic scenes, with another boy and Josh (Cammie's old boyfriend), Cammie's bra almost coming off, and the school almost closing and you have a really good story from Ally Carter.

Hope this review helps!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Light and Fun Read, Not Quite Equal to Predecessor, April 27, 2009

In case you missed the first book of Carter's series, "I'd tell you I Love You, but Then I'd Have to Kill You," Cammie Morgan is not your typical teenager attending a selective school. The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is a training ground for future spies and her mother just happens to be the head mistress. In "Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy," Cammie is returning to school from Winter break, post breakup with first boyfriend and CIA interrogation to determine whether any critical secrets had been leaked to said "Subject." Cammie and her friends may have thought that boy-related drama was over, but when the Gallagher mansion becomes the home to a visiting school, everything changes - need I mention that Blackthorne Institute is a previously unheard of spy school for boys? Their entrance leads to a series of challenges and adventures that give the girls a run for their money.

I tore through the first book in this series and Carter's second book was equally fast-paced. However, maybe the novelty of the premise had worn off, but I found this second attempt a little lackluster. It relied too much on clichés - she creates a modern, spy reproduction of the "do you trust me?" scene from the movie, "Titanic." I found these strong, intelligent girls so charming in the first book that seemed to give a new face to the idea of girl power. Yet Cammie and co. always seemed a step or two behind the boys in painfully obvious ways, ways that seem to create faults in the foundation of the previous book. I kept finding myself saying, "Come on, you're better than that!" I am disappointed though not always surprised when sequels fail to live up to the expectations set by a successful first attempt, but I truly though that Carter could have squeezed a little more from the "girl spy school" stone.

5.0 out of 5 stars I expected a good book...And I got a GREAT one., November 12, 2007
(Ignore the cruddy title)
My friend lent me her copy the 1st of the Gallagher Girl books last year, and I absolutely LOVED it!
So, when I heard the second one was out, (With out my knowlegde, too!) I HAD to have it...But I had no money. My birthday was fast aprraching so I used a chunk of my Birthday money to buy this rather than waiting to recive it as a gift or something.
I anxiously, (did I spell that right?) awaited the book's arival, and was so excited when it FINNALLY got here.
I dove right in, and I got exactly what I expected. (In a good way, not the I already know where this book is going after the 1st chapter kinda way)
My conclusion is that 'Cross My Heart & Hope to Spy' is as good as, if not better, than 'I'd Tell you I love you, but then I'd Have to Kill you'
I CANNOT wait for the next Gallagher Girl book comes out, (& this time, I'm pre-ordering)

5.0 out of 5 stars If You LOVE "I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You", November 6, 2008
By
Miki Young "Miki" (Irvine, California United States) - See all my reviews
Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy is even better than I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You! This second Gallagher Girls novel has more adventure, espionage, and boy questions than the first, taking everything a step further.

In this second book, find out what happens when the Gallagher Girls get some new students at their school. Will the new students blend in seamlessly or will there be deadly tension? Also, find out if Josh still remembers Cammi--and whether these two will end up back together.

If you read the first Gallagher Girls novel, the second book is a MUST!

4.0 out of 5 stars New security measures. Mysterious guests. New adventures for a girl spy., December 26, 2011
Last term Cammie Morgan met her first boyfriend. She also staked out his house, ran surveillance on him, and had to make up a whole entire life just to be with him. Only to be forced to break up with him when he came too close to the truth.

Cammie is a Gallagher Girl, a student at the prestigious Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women--young women who plan to be spies that is.

After dating and losing the one boy who saw her as more than "the Chameleon" she usually is at school Cammie is back for a new term ready to once again blend in. She even plans to follow the rules this time.

But things are different at the Gallagher Academy. New security measures. Mysterious guests. A new op code named "Blackthorne." And those are just the beginning of Cammie's problems as everything she thought she knew as a Gallagher Girl is put to the test in Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy (2007) by Ally Carter.

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy is the second book in Carter's Gallagher Girl series which began with I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You.

When I finished the first book in this series, I was not sure if I would keep reading. The premise--a boarding school for spies in training--was genius. Cammie and her friends were likable and authentic in a way that only girl geniuses learning to become spies can. Still, something never clicked in that first volume where Cammie spent all her time obsessing about . . . a boy.

Nonetheless, this was a series I wanted to like. So when I heard the end of the series arc was slated for book 6, I decided to give Cammie and the Gallagher Academy another chance.

I'm so glad I did.

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy has everything I wanted from I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You and then some. New characters, new challenges, plus lots of action and humor make this book a winner. While the book follows in the same vein as the first of the series, Carter keeps things fresh with twists and turns (and did I mention the new characters?!) that keep both the reader and Cammie on their toes.

Possible Pairings: White Cat by Holly Black, Strings Attached by Judy Blundell, Clarity by Kim Harrington, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, Kiki Strike: Inside the Shadow City by Kirsten Miller, Divergent by Veronica Roth, Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
