Stunning and a Must own for stitchers,

Deserves 10 STARS.Literally everything anyone interested in classy information about all aspects of counted cross stitch with a bounty of crips clean photographs, would need. Page 52 EXPLORING CHOICES Using Charms Buttons and Embellishments is worth the price of the book alone. Getting Started Using Charts Choosing-Managing Threads, working with linen (my favorite), stitching miniatures, three demensional cross stitch, double and single canvas, combining flower thread and cotton, metallic thread, using beads, designing samplers, and page 83 which lists a STITCH LIBRARY which is basically every know stitch with step by step wonderfully photographed examples. And finally finishing techniques like stretching and framing. I am an avid self design counted cross stitch artist and am always looking for well written and well photographed information on linen and thread design and this book has become one of my top 3 favorites that will be used a great deal. The book, along with a few items for making the Ark and its Creatures on page 53 would make a great gift for someone who will quickly get hooked on needlework.

A Superb Guide,
By HBeano (Cambridge, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Cross Stitcher's Bible (Crafts) (Hardcover)
As far as cross stitch references go, this one deserves 5 stars! In the first two chapters it answers every question a x-stitch beginner might think of, from comparing and choosing fabrics to the equipment needed and how to use charts. The third chapter offers endless ideas and tips on how to further develop this skill. I particularly liked the combination of x-stitch with other embroidery techniques, incorporating beads, buttons embellishments in the x-stitched piece and the ways to adapt existing chart designs to create a more personalized piece of art. I consider myself an experienced stitcher but still find myself referring often to this book. Its compact size also makes it easy to carry around.

An essential reference!,

I happened on this book in my public library and I now need to own it! It is simply crammed with very clear instructions and photographs on all aspects of cross stitch. My favorite thing about this book is that it helps you go beyond just counted cross stitch in other counted thread techniques. She doesn't have the space to go into detail about these other techniques (Hardanger, drawn thread, etc), but enough information is given to let you choose if you want more details. This book is also simply well-written. While it is meant to be a reference book, I have been known to simly sit down and read it from cover to cover.

An Invaluable Aid To Cross Stitchers Everywhere,

This review is from: The Cross Stitcher's Bible (Crafts) (Hardcover)
As soon as I saw The Cross Stitcher's Bible I knew I had to have my own copy. This book is crammed full of information. It is an excellent guide for the beginner Cross Stitcher and a powerful aid for experts. It has great instructions for 39 different stitches, and provides patterns for all occasions. For the beginner, it is a must have book and for the expert it allows you to broaden your stitching horizons by providing hints to "jazz" up your work. This book is truly a "bible", one that you can keep tucked in your sewing basket for quick and accurate reference.

I've done embroidery since I was a young girl - that's over 25 years now. I only started cross stitching less than a year ago, so I was eager to find a book that put everything I need to know in one place. That's what this book does. There are easy, step-by-step drawings and photographs that cover not only every conceivable stitch, but other cross stitch techniques, fabric choices, color choices, reading a chart...anything you could need to know. Get this book!

I saw this book at the library. It had more information than I wanted to just get occasionally and I went home, went to Amazon and put in the ISBN. Presto! The book was here in 4 days. Lots of specifics about different stitches and lots of tiny cross stitched flowers that I can use on labels for my quilts. I use this a lot.

A great resource,

This review is from: The Cross Stitcher's Bible (Crafts) (Hardcover)
I've been embroidering and cross-stitching for nearly 20 years, and I've been finding this book loaded with helpful information on the craft I've been practising since childhood. It explains essentials such as different types of threads and background fibers, tools of the trade, and how to organize your threads as you're working a project, and then discusses how to alter patterns or projects to give them a different look (such as stitching in miniature, using a different colored background with slightly different threads, or substituting a pattern's colors for ones of your choice), how to spice up your work with things such as beads, buttons, charms, and ribbons, and different methods of cross-stitch, such as blackwork embroidery, pulled and drawn thread work, Hardanger embroidery (which looks very intimidating!), and Assissi embroidery. It also includes a whole library of all of the various types of stitches, such as tent stitch, rice stitch, Algerian eye, Queen stitch, Montenegrin stitch, and Rhodes stitch. And unlike some other stitching books I've encountered, nearly all of the projects are ones I want to stitch and am actively inspired by. The first one that caught my eye, and which I decided to work on first, was the one for the old-fashioned teddybear. I plan to work a lot of the other patterns in here as well, such as the samplers, the church in winter, some of the flower motifs (which will be interesting to try with beadwork), the cat on the brick wall, and the carousel trinket box. Following the library of patterns is a short section on finishing techniques. Since the book is British, all of the suppliers listed in the back are located in England, but any North American cross-stitcher will probably be aware of suppliers in one's own neck of the woods.

but the projects in it are not what I would stitch...I have found better books than this one, although it does have a nice layout.
