Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Broken Heart, Oklahoma, has become the epicenter for the supernatural, inhabited by vampires, lycanthropes, were-cats, and other beings. Some residents were made into vampires by accident, including Elizabeth Bretton. She came to town to check on her family’s abandoned mansion, which is now inhabited by Queen Patsy and her family. Being a vampire definitely has its benefits. Elizabeth loves not aging and living in the Victorian mansion until a secret room is discovered. Suddenly Elizabeth is confronted with a ghost that wants to kill her, the whole town is subject to a mysterious evil, and an amazingly attractive man appears. A rare were-jaguar, Tez Jones is invited to join the town were-cats, but he only wants to spend time with Elizabeth. The seventh book in Bardsley’s Broken Heart series is as fun and entertaining as the first, making it a must for fans and newcomers alike. --Patty Engelmann

This was a fun and sexy romance that kept me giggling and wiggling.

As wonderful as all the books in this series have been the last thing I expected was such an interesting mystery to crop up in the pages of this story.

Just like her past books in this series, this book was fun to read.

B&N made a wondrous error and handed over my copy of Cross Your Heart the Thursday before its release. Wanna guess what I stayed up Thursday night doing? Take a WILD guess. Yeah, I was up until around 3am reading it straight through. I will go back in the near future and read through it slowly, but I can tell you now that Michele delivered - again - with her Broken Heart series.

The Setting - is still Broken Heart, Oklahoma. A few years have come and gone since everyone became undead and things are sort of settling into a normal routine of sudden-life-or-death and peace-and-quiet. This time around, you get more of a sense of where the town came from; those deep down roots behind why the town is cursed. You know what curse I'm talking about.

The Characters - oh Lord have mercy! It took me a little bit to get into the "hoity-toity" voice of cultured Elizabeth Bretton. I was so used to the sarcastic, down and dirty kind of women like Phoebe and Jessica that Elizabeth kinda threw me at the beginning. I had a scare two chapters in that, *gasp*, I might not like Elizabeth! Never fear. She wins you over though it's totally Tez you're rooting for. Come on, sexy smexy were-jag? And he goes all cave man to her social etiquette. It's a riot on the page. Other staples of the Broken Heart community appear, as well as some distant relations no one ever expected to visit.

The Plot - seven books into a series, a very connected series where each book builds off of another, you really have to wonder what else you can do? But Michele pulls it out of a hat in Cross Your Heart. I was a little skeptical when I read that it was a ghost story, kinda a mystery thing. Mysteries are okay, but I don't usually like them as much as adventure stories. However, there is so much of the history of Broken Heart twined around the mystery that it helps give the whole series a more grounded feel.

Just like her past books in this series, this book was fun to read. I work hard and enjoy books that let me relax and just enjoy the story line. This is one of those books.

If your looking for historical accuracy, intense characters, or the like....this is not your book.

If you just want a good read that is light hearted, with a little romance thrown in (don't forget the "Vampire" element)....then this will be fun.

knew that I was going to love this book from the minute I saw Dean Winchester of Supernatural quoted on the same page as a Walt Whitman. This was a fun and sexy romance that kept me giggling and wiggling. Book seven of The Broken Heart Series will not disappoint fans and most likely attract more to the quirky Oklahoma haven for paranormals. Elizabeth is a fantastic vampire lead character; she's a high-class heroine with an approachable humor. I understood her sadness over the fact she could never have children and I felt the entire issue was handled with care. I love Tez, his sexy sinewy body came in second only to his earthy conversation and witty banter. They don't get much more tall, dark and handsome then this were-jaguar. Once again I thoroughly enjoyed this authors causticness, she truly is a master of this art form. My favorite part of this book was the fact that we got to learn the history of the founding families of the town, this has been an intricate vein throughout the past books and I enjoyed the detailed information about the legend. I also appreciated that we got to meet the were-cats and I look forward to getting to know some of them better in upcoming offerings. I highly recommend picking this one up. - Theresa Joseph

As wonderful as all the books in this series have been the last thing I expected was such an interesting mystery to crop up in the pages of this story. What started out as a disembodied voice calling heiress Elizabeth Bretton's name lead her to a buried skeleton that she believes was strangled, thing goes from weird to weirder as unknown felon keeps trying to make the immortal vampire dead for good. It just may take a vacationing were jaguar name Tez to solve Broken Heart's darkest secret curse that dates back 150 years. Emotions run high among the citizens as a possible demonic force has been release have effecting the citizen's emotions. Elizabeth is more focus on keeping the future were cat's alpha all hers rather than give Tez up to the local pride. It's up to the possible last were jaguar to decide what he wants more. An eternity with a blood sucker or a home with the pack were cats that can provide him the children to keep his kind from dying out while at the same time dealing with a town wide romance hate plague.

There is a mystery in Broken Heart. People are starting to act strange, loving couples are arguing. Elizabeth Bretton is being attack by an unseen foe. A 150 year old mystery needs to be solved. Yes things are stranger than usual in this town.

I enjoyed every moment of this story. It is an irreverent and humorous look at the paranormal . However, there is a dangerous and evil foe that needs to be trampled.

Various Paranormal species are able to find inter species love in this authors world, but there is a price to pay. This is certainly the case with Elizabeth who is a vampire and Tez were-jaguar. He is willing and able to pay the price but she is a bit reluctant.

All of this makes for a great story and it keeps you engrossed until the end.
