A Little Known World War II Story, December 29, 2008
Crossbow was the codename for the operations conducted against the V-1 and V-2 missiles that Germany was developing and using during World War II. The Americans and the British had some information about the weapons as they were being developed but not a great deal. Based on this they had to develop counter measures to minimize the damage they caused.
Operation Overcast (sometimes called Paperclip) was the effort by the Americans to bring sample V-2 rockets and their developers to the United States after the war. This was the story of Wernher von Braun and his associates, first at White Sands Missile Range then in Huntsville, Alabama. It also covers what happened to the scientists that the Soviets captured and sent to Russia to work in the development of the Soviet rockets and their space program.
