I love mincemeat. My grandmother made mincemeat. I make it now myself. This is not mincemeat. This is disgusting.

Here are the ingredients in Crosse & Blackwell's "mincement," in order of volume, according to the label: apples, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, raisins, water, vinegar, corn starch, and then trace elements of orange peel, salt, spices, caramel color, orange juice, and preservatives. (As an aside, what on earth is the purpose of that orange juice, which exists in less quantity than the caramel color. )

In other words, this concoction is apples, drenched in high-fructose corn syrup and regular corn syrup, with a few raisins. Lord knows what the "spices" were, because they could scarcely be distinguished under the sickly aftertaste of corn syrup.

Here are the ingredients from a recipe for real mincemeat, again in order of volume: apples, raisins, beef (for those who like it), sultanas, currents, sour cherries, citrons, sugar, strawberry preserves, apricot preserves, orange peel, lemon peel, spices (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, mace, allspice), salt. This mixture is marinated in liquor - rum, brandy, sherry, apple jack, or whatever additional or alternative liquor you may enjoy. Our family's recipe calls for these things; other people use different fruits, most omit the meat, some use juice and vinegar instead of liquor. But the result, in any case, is rich, spicy, complex and delicious.

Or, if you prefer, you may have Crosse & Blackwell's canned apples with high-fructose corn syrup.

This is one of the last of the Original mincemeats available suitable for Tarts, and real pies. The U.S. Brands have gone to half mincemeat, half apples, which is O. K. for Apple Pies, but lousy for Mincemeat Tarts. Due scarcity, it is expensive, but necessary for real English Tarts. The Tart Pans are also extremely difficult to find since Williams-Sonoma discontinued them 15 years ago, They are available on a very few sites in England. The 29 oz. Jars go a long way.

This mince pie filling is absolutely wonderful!! Best since my grandmother's mince pie. Excellent!!

After having searched EVERY store in Charlotte,NC, and not finding Crosse and Blackwell mincemeat, I finally ordered from Amazon and had one jar for Christmas and an extra for next Thanksgiving! It was horribly expensive, though!

Simply the best mincemeat you can buy today. I add a chopped up apple and a little butter and brown sugar and heat til mixture bubbles - and then put in crust. Makes the best pie since my Mom's 50 years ago. Restores reputation of "mincemeat pie"!

The product was received in timely order and in perfect condition. The mincemeat pies that my wife made were delicious.

Made excellent pie served @ Christmas & New Years. Will order again this year.

The most important fact is as follows: Searching for an item? go immediately to Amazon.You will be amazed how a frazzled search will be replaced with finding your item quickly with no wear and tear on your nervous system. Very tasty made mince pies with the product my friend really enjoyed making them with me they were delicious tasted great!

Each Christmas, I grew up eating mincemeat pies as a child in Canada. Each year I continued the tradition with my own kids. When I moved the the U.S. I couldn't find the right mincemeat in Texas - where we live. I am thrilled with this product as its exactly what I remember from my childhood. Thanks AMAZON and MY BRANDS!
