5.0 out of 5 stars Nice wind meter, good price
Its a good quality wind meter with a good price. I also like it because its more compact than other more expensive units and it seems more sensitive too. It does not have a protective cover tough, so keep it away from dirt and sand when not in use. Great for kitesurfing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful, but needs strong winds
Fun to have. The feature set is good, while the user interface takes a bit getting used to. The thermometer and wind chill meter are useful extras. Ditto the peak, average and current measurements.
The meter works well when measuring winds above 5 mph. However, when trying to measure the wind speed over the pool, the meter sometimes would not spin up. The spec says...

The meter works well when measuring winds above 5 mph. However, when trying to measure the wind speed over the pool, the meter sometimes would not spin up. The spec says it can measure down to 0.44 mph. My device won't register less than 1.5 mph, and I have no idea how accurate it is at that point.

1.0 out of 5 stars problem product, November 26, 2008

When I first received this Anemometer the battery was dead. I replaced the battery with new one and it worked fine. Turned it off and put it away. A few days latter I took it out to use it again and the battery was dead again. I found out there is a drain on the battery when the unit is off. So now I pull the battery out when I put it away. When I put the battery back in to use it, the unit will not power up with out fooling around with it for several minutes. It's too much work so now it's back in the box and in a drawer. This works fine when working but, I would find a different unit that is more reliable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Having fun...., January 11, 2007

We live in what seems to be a wind tunnel. For years we've just relied on the news & weather channel for information but we got to the point that we want to know just HOW STRONG our winds are & what the actual wind chill is. This is a great little unit for just regular people. We're having fun. It didn't start up when I got it so I called the company. Immediately got a RMA# & returned it for inspection. Battery was dead. I had it back in less than a week after it had been checked out & they'd put in a new battery. Fun to have for us.

I'm not sure how accurate this wind guage is, but since I work on a touring boat this is really nice to have a neck strap to hang from my neck for a fast read. Along with all the info it gives for wind speed and wind chill. Several people have seen mine and think they would make great gifts for those weather enthusiasts.

I use it for rc soaring, and is just great. I also use it for sailing and it gets wet, so nice thing it's water proof. Very good product for the price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Chilled, December 28, 2009

If you need a meter to measure wind speed, this device will do that very well. The wind speed measurements were accurate. If you are interested in temperature or wind chill, you will have to stand outside so long that you will know the values before the instrument tells you. It took about 45 minutes for it to go from room temperature, 70 degrees, to the outside temperature, 45 degrees. It is a good value for measuring wind speed, but you will chill before you get it to measure wind chill.

1.0 out of 5 stars SLOOOW response, March 13, 2007
This review is from: La Crosse Technology EA-3010U Handheld Anemometer (Kitchen)
First unit delivered had a defective display. The second unit worked. This unit has a 'chill factor' feature. The temperature display responds so slowly it takes at least 30 minutes for the reading to settle from a inside to an outside temperature. (Hope you can stand the cold waiting.) The company did not respond to help line phone calls and 'didn't call back', or respond to any emails. The only way I got a response was to write to the president of the company. I got a response, but 'that's just the way it works' is the response. Please don't purchase from LaCrosse.

Bought this for my sailboat and it works really well, unfortunately the one i got had a dead battery in it and wasnt easy to find a replacement.

However it works great, has an adjustable lanyard so you can wear it without losing it. Very light and compact, fits in a shirt pocket.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little slow with the wind-chill feature, but works great!, December 20, 2008

This review is from: La Crosse Technology EA-3010U Handheld Anemometer (Kitchen)
I was outside today, measuring the wind here in Kansas. It took 15 minutes for the temperature reading to settle (compared to 30 minutes on another review i read), but when it did settle, I measured a -13 degree wind chill! And the first gust I measured was a 21-mph gust. It is a great product for the price, and I'll be waiting for those windy days here in KS!
