5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT WATCH!
The La Crosse K2-100 watch is the best watch in its class. I am so suprised that at 70 dollars, the watch can match up to Casio and any other altimeter watch. The watch is great and so is the backlighting. The barometric pressure is almost accurate when compared to NOAA's website. The thing that sucks is that the sensor is on the bottom of the watch meaning it will...

The La Crosse K2-100 watch is the best watch in its class. I am so suprised that at 70 dollars, the watch can match up to Casio and any other altimeter watch. The watch is great and so is the backlighting. The barometric pressure is almost accurate when compared to NOAA's website. The thing that sucks is that the sensor is on the bottom of the watch meaning it will read your body temperature unless you take the watch off your wrist. The good things about this is that dust would not be able to get in the sensor, and that direct sunlight wouldnt even come enar the sensor. This watch is great overall, yet the only problem I have is that when I push a button on the watch, it ameks the BEEP noise which you can not turn off! But i am used to it! GREAT WATCH! BUY IT!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent watch for the price if you take the time to learn how to use it, May 22, 2006
This review is from: La Crosse Technology K2-100 Extreme Altimeter Watch (Kitchen)
I use this watch mainly for hiking... but here are my thoughts:

Pros:

-Basic time, date, temp, bar. pressure (48 hr. history graphing--used to predict weather trends), altitude (24 hr. history graphing), dual time, daily alarm, dated alarm (a nice feature), chronograph, countdown timer, hourly chime, on/off alarm setting

-Excellent blue backlight that illuminates the entire screen

-In altimeter mode, you can press the st/stp button to begin precision recording of your trip (you get to set how often to record data: I usually use 10 minute intervals); press again when your trip is done: this equals one "segment" (you can also slice your trip up into multiple segments by starting / stopping the recording)

-Now, you can press the adjust + st/stp. buttons at once and enter into the altimeter log book. Press the adjust button once to enter into the appropriate segment. Here, it displays the date, the total time of the trip, starting altitude, and the start time. Press the adjust button once more, and enter into the granular details: you can view the altitude, A/D rate, for every single entry that was recorded. Stop for lunch too long? No problem, you can also delete segments that you choose. Oh, it will also give you the total ascended and descended feet for the trip. Total entries it can record: 2,250.

-After finding out how to work w/ the log book, I LOVE this watch.

-Excellent price!

-I've found the altimeter to be very accurate (it obviously adjusts with pressure changes, but if you set it at the beginning of a hike to a know elevation, it works quite well--and I've compared it with friends, more expensive altimeters, and it does just as good)

-The barometric pressure graphing is great--seems accurate and helps to forecast trends in weather

-Temperature gauge seemed actually fairly accurate on my body that last time I checked it, although I rarely look at the watch as a resource for temperature, as I use my "how it feels" logic. One could remove the watch at night (in a tent) and then make note of an accurate temperature in the morning to decide how to dress if they wanted?

Cons:

-Instruction Manual could use some clarity/detail on trip logging

-It's just a bit on the thick side (e.g. it will catch on a coat sleeve, and it just "feels" as if it is protruding a bit further than necessary). Had it been slightly slimmer, I would have given it 5 stars.

-I didn't care for the plastic band, so I replaced it with a velcro type, which I am now pleased with

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea that is hard to use., February 23, 2006
This review is from: La Crosse Technology K2-100 Extreme Altimeter Watch (Kitchen)
I bought the watch because it has an altimiter, but the altimeter is hard to use and I have not taken the time to use the CD that gives instructions.

1.0 out of 5 stars Me or the watch, December 4, 2004
This review is from: La Crosse Technology K2-100 Extreme Altimeter Watch (Kitchen)
I have no way of check other feature on the watch, but I don't think that the temperature is accurate. When I am wearing the watch and when I take it off, I get a different temparature reading. There is a diference between the temperature reading from my house thermostat and the watch too. The reading is different from reading when I go to my friend's and relative's house. So, sorry, I bought it retail, and I going to try to return it. Another thing, it only has 10 lap not 100 lap.
