5.0 out of 5 stars La Crosse Tech TX3U Wireless Temperature Sensor
I have had a La Crosse wireless weather station for seven or eight years. It came with one of these wireless remote temperature sensors, but had the capacity to support three. When my original sensor finally gave out last fall I looked at several places that carried them and ordered two from weatherbuffs.com. They were very responsive and responsible merchants,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre outside, better inside
I bought three of these sensors to replace one that fell and broke a few months ago. Here's the bottom line - the sensors are not so great for outdoor temperature readings, but do much better indoors away from sunlight and larger temperature swings. There are days when my sensor outside is off from the real temperature by 5-10 degrees. Summer and winter have equally...

I have had a La Crosse wireless weather station for seven or eight years. It came with one of these wireless remote temperature sensors, but had the capacity to support three. When my original sensor finally gave out last fall I looked at several places that carried them and ordered two from weatherbuffs.com. They were very responsive and responsible merchants, promptly replacing one that disappeared into the postal system. Not only did they have the lowest prices, they have the best customer service I've encountered in many years.

I ordered this temperature sensor to measure the temperature of our downstairs basement. Although we set our thermostat to accomoodate different settings for the upstairs vs. downstairs, we never really knew what the temperature was downstairs. This little device helps us keep our guests comfortable.

I previously wrote that this product didn't have good range. I have finally fixed the problem, it was a low battery in the base station. Once I replaced that, the range for this item is working fine, and I really like it.

This was bought to replace the default simple one when that one broke, and the digital readout is nice for when we're outside.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly pleased., January 3, 2007
This review is from: La Crosse Technology TX3U Wireless Temperature Sensor with LCD Display (Kitchen)
We have found this sensor to be a useful tool in keeping track of the temperature in our garage, where keeping things above freezing is a must. Our one disappointment has been in the fact that the sensor is more sensitive to distance & obstacles in the area between the base & the sensor than we planned. This means that we have had to move the base several times in order to get the most consistent readings. That said, it does perform as promised.

5.0 out of 5 stars La Crosse Remote Sensor, October 2, 2007

An excellent product that sends temperature information to the master display and also shows temperature on the remote. Batteries last much longer than cheapie systems available at discount stores. Highly recommended.

Ordering and delivery were excellent, with sensor arriving ahead of promised date. Great value at fair price delivered promptly.

Summer and winter have equally wild swings. It's ridiculous that the temperature is measured in increments of 0.1 degrees when it's never really that close to the actual temperature anyway.

I use one sensor outside and two inside (one upstairs and one in the basement). The inside sensors seem to get within 1-3 degrees of the actual temperature. I do see an appropriate difference between the warmer upstairs area and the cooler basement.

Finally, the visible window when for a temperature reading is pretty handy. I really like the easy access to a temperature reading without having to be in the room where the base unit is located. I find this more useful inside than outside, since my outside unit is mounted up higher underneath an eve.

I couldn't find anything much better than this, so I bought it and am getting by. The product design is pretty ugly... a boxy off-white block with boring font.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but TX6U is better, June 3, 2007
By

This is a decent sensor and I like the display on it. However, the display works only in Fahrenheit (no Celsius option). Also, the range does not seem to be as good as my TX6U unit. (I'm guessing the power had to be reduced to allow operation with AAA batteries instead of AA). Also this unit died after two years of use, whereas my TX6U is still going strong after 4 years of use. Obviously, this is not a statistically meaningful sample, your mileage may vary.

In retrospect I rarely use the display (and then I have to convert the temperature to Celsius to use it), so it is probably not worth having that feature for me. It probably also makes the unit more failure prone. I'm replacing my failed unit with a TX6U.
