For use with any La Crosse weather stations aside from the Professional Weather Series, or as a replacement for the obsolete TX4U sensor model, the TX7U sensor transmits to the receiver at a 433.92 MHz frequency from a distance of up to 330 feet. The sensor records outdoor relative humidity from 1 to 99 percent, while its outdoor temperature measurement capabilities range from -21.8 to +157.8 degrees F. To ensure the most accurate readings, install the sensor out of direct rain and sunlight. The sensor comes with a mounting bracket and hardware for stand alone or wall mounting. For power the sensor, the separate purchase of two AA batteries is required. A limited one-year warranty covers this item. The sensor measures 1-3/4 inches wide by 1 inch deep by 6-1/5 inches high and weighs 1 pound upon shipping.

La Crosse TX7U Sensor,

I purchased this TX7U sensor as an added measurement zone for a La Crosse/The Weather Channel Weather display that I bought over a year ago to monitor my front and back yards - the system originally used TX4U sensors that read temperature and humidity and relayed the data by UHF telemetry to the base display. Since the TX4U is no longer available, I purchased the TX7U, which is fully compatible. The nice thing about the TX7U is that in addition to sending live data to a base display up to 300 feet away, that it also has a built-in LCD display that shows the actual temperature and relative humidity (no need to go back to the base display to see what is being sent). I use this sensor as my third zone (my base unit displays up to 3 zones) inside my greenhouse, where I overwinter tropical palm specimens that wouldn't survive the rare freezes we see in So. Cal. every 15 to 17 years. Now I can wake up in the middle of a cold night and glance over at the base display and see what the conditions in my greenhouse actually are. I highly recommend this sensor and the LaCrosse product line.

Beware of coverage across rooms,

I live in a modest appartment. I have one base station with a TX4U for outside temperature that works wonderfully yet can do more than one sensor. I wanted to monitor the babies' room temperature so the TX7U seemed like a nice match -- it would display on my base station and be readable in the room. It does that just fine... when both are in the same room.Unfortunately the usable distance between the sensor and the base station is very short, drastically less than advertised: I get nothing if there's more than a few yards between both. At 20 feet across two wooden walls I get intermittent readings. If I close room doors or move up to 30 feet there's no more temperature reading on the base station. So read the advertised 300 feet distance for that it really says: outside, line-of-sight in perfect conditions.

Works great with my station,

Works great with my LaCrosse weather station. Make sure you check for compatible models. I have two external temperature sensors now (one for outside and one for my shed). The only issue is that you must remove the batteries from all units, install them back in the external temp sensors and then into the main weather station for it to find both of them correctly. This is in the directions of course. Hope this helps!
