5.0 out of 5 stars La Crosse TX7U Sensor

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware of coverage across rooms
I live in a modest appartment. I have one base station with a TX4U for outside temperature that works wonderfully yet can do more than one sensor. I wanted to monitor the babies' room temperature so the TX7U seemed like a nice match -- it would display on my base station and be readable in the room. It does that just fine... when both are in the same room...

I purchased this TX7U sensor as an added measurement zone for a La Crosse/The Weather Channel Weather display that I bought over a year ago to monitor my front and back yards - the system originally used TX4U sensors that read temperature and humidity and relayed the data by UHF telemetry to the base display. Since the TX4U is no longer available, I purchased the TX7U, which is fully compatible. The nice thing about the TX7U is that in addition to sending live data to a base display up to 300 feet away, that it also has a built-in LCD display that shows the actual temperature and relative humidity (no need to go back to the base display to see what is being sent). I use this sensor as my third zone (my base unit displays up to 3 zones) inside my greenhouse, where I overwinter tropical palm specimens that wouldn't survive the rare freezes we see in So. Cal. every 15 to 17 years. Now I can wake up in the middle of a cold night and glance over at the base display and see what the conditions in my greenhouse actually are. I highly recommend this sensor and the LaCrosse product line.

Unfortunately the usable distance between the sensor and the base station is very short, drastically less than advertised: I get nothing if there's more than a few yards between both. At 20 feet across two wooden walls I get intermittent readings. If I close room doors or move up to 30 feet there's no more temperature reading on the base station. So read the advertised 300 feet distance for that it really says: outside, line-of-sight in perfect conditions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with my station, January 26, 2006
This review is from: La Crosse Technology TX7U Temperature Sensor & Humidty sensor for 433 MHz units only (Kitchen)
Works great with my LaCrosse weather station. Make sure you check for compatible models. I have two external temperature sensors now (one for outside and one for my shed). The only issue is that you must remove the batteries from all units, install them back in the external temp sensors and then into the main weather station for it to find both of them correctly. This is in the directions of course. Hope this helps!

I have had more than six weather sensors. This sensor is perceived as the most accurate. It has a window with the current readings of both temperature and humidity. My receiver weather station picks up the signal easily from at least 100 feet. Buy it.

The TX7U is an excellent replacement sensor for my WS-9025U La Crosse Technology weather station. Weather Buffs had a great price and shipping was fast.

The device works as advertised IF the directions for placement outdoors are carefully followed. I didn't the first time and it quit after getting soaked. The second one has performed as advertised and lasted: i.e. i put it out of the way of rain/snow. It's an expensive little piece of electronics so treat it with respect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sensor, November 27, 2009

I purchased this to replace an original LaCrosse sensor that came with my indoor/outdoor thermometers. I was delighted to find out that a replacement sensor was available to purchase. It sends the temp to my 3 indoor units without issue.

You only need to be aware of the straight line, as the crow flies, between the sensor and the thermometers. I moved one of my thermometers just a few feet over on an interior wall, in order to avoid having the path to the sensor go through an extra interior closet wall. It immediately picked up the signal and has had no problem since.

The design of the sensor is very versatile--giving you several different mounting options. The backplate can be snapped onto the bottom of the unit or to the back of the unit, and mounts with screws. It will also stand without mounting permanently.

This unit (the tx7u) out lasted the tx4u (a slightly more expensive unit) under exactly the same operating conditions...not sure what this means. I now have two of the tx7u units (a new one to replace the failed tx4u), a small quality sample but I would probably purchace a third tx7u if I needed one...Customer experience is pretty important!!!!
