Weather Direct by La Crosse Technology gives you easy access to the same quality weather as meteorologists 24 hours-a-day without turning on a TV or a computer! It works without Wi-Fi, there is no software to install, and the forecasts are totally free. no subscription required.
Choose the forecast information that you want from a list of over 60,000 locations in the United States and Canada including your hometown, golf courses, parks, sports venues and more. Weather Direct provides you with the complete weather picture for each morning, afternoon, evening and night for today and three succeeding days. You’ll know to pack your umbrella for an afternoon shower, or bring a jacket for a cool evening at the game.
The wireless display features a large LCD with automatic time and date, time alarm with snooze, indoor temperature and forecasts for the daily high and low temperature. The 4 Day Weather Multi-line toggles the percentage chance of precipitation, rain amount in inches, and hours of sunshine per day. The bottom LCD line scrolls your wireless outdoor temperature, selected location name, sun rise/set and forecast.
The included wireless temperature sensor monitors your backyard temperature. You can also monitor your backyard temperature from anywhere in the world with your free membership to theweatherclub.com.
The weather gateway connects to your network router with the included LAN cable to send secure wireless forecasts to the display - 24 hours a day without turning on a TV or computer. A wireless range of 330 feet allows you to put the display device almost anywhere you want. A PC is only required for one-time easy set-up or to customize features. Pretty good, but instructions are poor,

This is my second La Crosse weather station purchase. First unit (a different model with no internet feed) crapped out after about two years. Thought this model with internet connection made much more sense, as it shows four days of forecast provided by a reliable, professional weather service.
Product works as advertized, but I have two relatively minor gripes. First, the one-time setup and registration instructions are pretty poor (for example, you are warned not to insert the receiver's batteries until instructed to do so, but the instructions don't tell you when to insert them). To make matters worse, the on-line registration process repeatedly informed me that the internet gateway was not registered successfully (I seemed to be stuck in an endless loop of failed registration re-tries) until I simply ignored the error message and moved on to the receiver registration page. The Weather Direct web site developers really should test their web pages better. Second (and this one is pretty minor), the local temperature reading from the remote sensor is available only in the scrolling message at the bottom of the display. This means that if you want to know the current temperature right outside your house (the single most valuable piece of information that you would need at a glance), you either have to wait for the local real-time temperature to scroll into view -- which can take over 30 seconds -- or you have to press a multi-function button that not only displays the local temperature for a few seconds, but also changes the way information is presented in the main display section. You have to press that same button several more times to get the main display back to your preferred setting. I find that to be more than a little annoying. It would have been much better if the designers had provided a dedicated place to display the temperature reading from the remote sensor. Despite my two minor gripes, I think the display of four-day forecast information is pretty clear and concise -- just what you would want to know before planning anything that takes you outdoors.

The outside sensor is not weather proof. The instructions say to put it under an eave, which I did,and the sensor quit working. I emailed the company and never heard back from them. The forecasts are kind of odd when compared with my newspaper and [...]. I would not advise others to buy this product.

This would probably be a nice item to have- if you can get it to work! I went through the registration process many times and downloaded the advanced set up software with no success. I did not have the same error as the other reviewer noted, my gateway would not stay online. I emailed tech support, they said due to overwhelming emails it would be 3-4 weeks, hmmm, what does this tell me? I did get an email back in a few days, no help. The one day I left my house someone did call and told me that they were busy but if I wanted I could try to call back. I did so to no avail- I left a message and was promised a call back- waited at home several days- no return call ever came. I also attempted a second email- no response.
If you have amazing technical abilities try it, otherwise I would stay away until some of the bugs are worked out. The only nice part was that Amazon has a very user friendly return procedure!
