3.0 out of 5 stars Buggy firmware
I like the unit despite several bugs that I found to exist in the unit's firmware.
It's got large LCD and lots of information. Atomic clock syncs with Colorado station just fine.

Bugs:
1. When the inside temp if exactly 75.7F, the unit may show 73.0F instead (then 75.7, then 73.0 again). So, if I see 73.0 I know that the temp inside is actually...

This La Crosse unit is super and functions as advertised. It was super
easy to set up and the company has a tech support department that was easy
to reach and helpfull to me in trying to understand one of the functions.
The LCD is great and easy to read and, everyone that comes in the house
and sses the unit is immediately drawn to it and the info on the display.

I bought 2 ectar sensors at abt 20 bucks each .. one for getting a non
shaded temp reading which is much more importantr than the sahded reading
here in Florida and one remote unit to tell me the temperature of the pool
water! WOW I can now decide if I want to dive in before changing into my
bathing trunks and getting that all important glass of Wild Turkey ....

Finally the sun and moon phases and rising info is just
what the practicing witches and goblin in your house need ...
I mean you don't want to show up too early at sunrise with your
eye of newt and whatever ... right ....

Is modern technology great .. or what

So, if I see 73.0 I know that the temp inside is actually 75.7F.
2. The arrow showing the pressure tendency should be based on the tendency within the last 6 hours according to the manual. Not true! Pressure is stable for 18 hours and it still shows arrow down and clouds with rain. So, I have to rely on the pressure graph itself rather than the arrow.

Other cons:
1. The pressure graph shows up/disappears every 5 seconds or so. According to the manual, this is to combat LCD screen burnout. C'mon! This is not plasma! This is LCD screen! No burnouts possible! However, it does save some battery.

2. As mentioned in other review, the moon phase is displayed counterintuitively: black simulates the lighted part of the moon, while empty part of the moon depicts the shaded region of the moon. Should be vice versa.

3. Humidity shows -- when it's below 20%. During winter months the inside humidity was low, but I had no way of finding out how low except that it was below 20%.

4. If the outside temperature is below -22F, it will show --. So, on those cold Minnesota nights you don't know how low it is.

Other than that, the unit is good. The temperature and pressure readings are quite accurate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good item but with some quirks., July 19, 2006

The screen needs to have more room for so that the seconds, date, day, alarm, and max and min indoor temp and humidity can be seen all at once. An extra inch or two of screen would fix that, or reducing the size of the large weather expectation display.

The barometer history is also constantly flashing/scrolling every couple seconds, which, according to the manual is to avoid lcd burn in. Funny how other parts of the screen can be lit up for up to several months at a time without suffering burn in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Weather Station, January 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8025AL Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
The base station is great but the included wireless unit isn't. The range is about half the 80' stated (or less with walls and/or windows). I base this on the additional remote sensors I bought (thermometer and thermometer with probe) when they are mounted side by side in various areas around my house and yard. Both optional units still send signals where the included sensor doesn't (or sends intermittently).

And to echo a past review, read the instructions and everything will be fine. If you opt for an additional thermometer, read the instructions all the way through once before starting, otherwise you will need to reboot the unit (remove the batteries) to establish a connection with all sensors.

Maybe the best measure of an items worth is to say you would buy it again and I would without hesitation, however, I would gladly upgrade to a base station/remote sensor package that could span over 200'.

Full of features, and most attractive. It took me numerous attempts to get the remote sensor to communicate with the station. In my frustration, I contacted the manufacturer via email, which was answered within a day, and my problem was ultimately solved with their help. Recommended item and company.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weather Watcher, July 7, 2007
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8025AL Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
I bought this gift for my fiance as she is an avid weather watcher. From the description it appeared to have alot of features, that I thought she would enjoy. I think it is a good product, and she appears to enjoy having up to date "real time" weather info at a glance. I think it is good for the price. I am considering upgrading to a better more industrial model in the future, but this one serves it's purpose for now. One complaint is that it was not clear if the wireless sensor was included in the box or sold seperately, so I purchased a sensor just in case. No big deal, I installed one sensor in the front of the house and one in the back.

First, I would like to say, with a bit of trial and error, this is a very good product. Well worth the price. I want to comment on the great technical support from La Crosse, and the super customer support from Amazon. The first unit I received was faulty due to being calibrated wrong. Left La Crosse a voice mail and was called within 36 hours. Tried to trouble shoot to no avail. La Crosse followed up next day. E-mailed Amazon about issue, replacement was in mail the next day. Outstanding.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit difficult to read at most angles, March 9, 2007
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8025AL Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
So far I am very happy with this purchase. It seems to be relatively accurate with temperature, humidity and pressure readings, and the atomic clock sets itself every night.

I love having the sunrise/sunset times as well as the moon phase displays, And it's very easy to get that data for any city for any date without having to permenantly change the date or city on the unit. Very cool. I don't like the fact that the moon phase display is "backwards" - a full moon, in my opinion, should be a full white circle and a new moon should be a black circle. This unit shows the moon as black instead of white. But once you get used to this, it's no big deal. I really like the fact that all of the buttons are on the front of the unit. Some other La Crosse products have buttons on the back or other hard to reach places.

I have found a few problems with the design. There is a curved glass (or plastic) cover over the entire display that is very reflective. The reflections make it impossible to read across the room. In fact it's difficult to read standing right in front of it because of the reflections. It's best to stand just slightly to the right or left.

I was excited about the fact that the display shows the high and low temperature and humidity at all times for each of 3 sensors. However, I was dissapointed that you can't recall the date and time that the high and low was recorded, as you can with other La Crosse products. Also, when you reset the high/low, you have to reset all sensors at once instead of being able to reset each individually.

It can be challenging to set up 3 remote sensors, especially when you have more than 1 base unit, but it can be done (I also have a La Crosse alarm clock that projects the time and outdoor temp on the ceiling, so I wanted to get both units to read the same sensor as #1).

Although this may sound like a negative review, it's really not. The features and functionality of this unit far outweigh it's shortcomings. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants the features it provides. Make sure the dimensions fit your needs. It might be a bit large to sit on a desk - best to hang it on a wall. It also comes in oak instead of brushed aluminum sides.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Weather Station... At a Great Amazon Price!, February 24, 2007

This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8025AL Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
I got this product when my old weather station died. As others have said, it is a bit bigger than you would anticipate, but not overly huge. I hung it on my kitchen wall and the silver/black finish fit in nicely and now doesn't taker up counter space.

The weather station works as advertised. It is very accurate... a lot more accurate than my last weather station. It is very nice to have the clock update automatically via the atomic clock in CO. Set-up was easy. Price here was less than E-Bay and had free shipping!! I highly recommend this to anyone who was looking for an affordable, entry level weather station!

So far great product. I had no issues setting up. Just follow the directions and give it time to lock onto the local time clock. I have my remote about 100 ft from my house and it is working fine. I like the display. I would avoid the alarms you set, as they go off and keep beeping until you reset. My alarm went off at 1:00 am and I was wondering if it was some alarm clock I forgot. Took a while to figure what was beeping at that time in the morning.
