Product Description

Amazon.com Review

If the Weather Channel or a local weather radio station isn't enough, it might be that the La Crosse WS-8025CH Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station can take up the slack. Multiple meteorological readouts appear on an elegant cherry-toned base station, mountable for walls or able to stand freely, with a built-in, fold-out stand. Sensors (up to three) transmit information from outdoor vantage points to the base station. Indoor and outdoor temperature (in degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius) and relative humidity are prominently displayed. Radio-controlled calendar and time readings are accurate to within a second per year. Time can be displayed in 12- or 24-hour modes.

The Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station has some special features, too. It gets its name from its ability to calculate rise and set times for the sun and moon based on an entered city name--there are 250 North American cities to choose from. (There's an indicator for 12 phases of the moon, too.) It can track barometric air pressure with a 30-hour history chart. The weather forecast function, estimated to be 75% accurate, is based on change in air pressure over time. Three icons--a sun, a sun with clouds, or two rain clouds--indicate imminent changes in the weather. There are two weather tendency arrows as well, indicating changes in air pressure. A temperature alarm can be set to alert for specific temperatures reached at the remote sensor location. And a storm warning feature uses drastic drops in air pressure to trigger an alarm.

The weather station comes with La Crosse transmitter TX4U. Weather station and transmitter each operate on two AA batteries. For options in wall mounting, two screws and screw anchors and a strong adhesive tape are included. The WS-8025CH measures 10 by 7-1/2 by 3/4 inch. La Crosse provides a one-year limited warranty on its weather stations. Each weather station comes with a thoroughly detailed instruction booklet. --Garland Withers

5.0 out of 5 stars Way Cool Weather Gadget !, January 26, 2005
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8025CH Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
Totally disagree with the prior poster's recommendation. My unit not only reads my temperature guage accurately, but it also catches two readings from my neighbors' weather stations.

This unit has some really cool features, and I'm glad I paid a little extra to have them. The sun/moon settings are cool, and the barometric pressure readings and history are very handy in predicting the weather patterns.

The only recommendation I have is the high/low temperature reading. I wish it reset itself daily, to give a daily high/low. Unfortunately it needs to be reset manually, so the high/low reads from the time you last reset the temperature.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product Sans Range, October 24, 2005

Every facet of this product performs as advertised and I am pleased with its overall performance. The only real shortcoming is mentioned by other reviewers and can also be gleaned from the instruction manual (downloadable from La Crosse Technology's wedsite). The stated range estimations are not at all conservative. This is likely more problematic if you, like me, wish to use more than the one included sensor. Also related to the sensors is that the instructions imply that the order in which batteries are installed in the sensors during setup will determine the order in which their respective information will be viewed as you page through the sensors on the display. I contacted their support when this did not seem to be the case and they did confirm that they only appear in the order in which the receiver finds the signal and that there is no way to reliably predetermine the order. Again, not a big deal but potentially confusing if you're using three sensors. A missing, albeit minor, feature that never occured to me but would be really handy is backlighting. Finally, if you're reading this review now then add that fifth star. I see the price for this unit is now less than seventy bucks! I paid close to twice that through Amazon less than a month ago! At the current price it's more than a bargain.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice features, bad range, November 30, 2004
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8025CH Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
The basic unit is very nice. I have a previous Oregon Scientific unit, and wanted to upgrade to get the barometer trend, humidity, and moon phase. Besides the LCD contrast not being as good, this LaCrosse unit is great.

BUT, the range from the transmitter is TERRIBLE. Even with all brand new batteries, they can't be more than 20-25 feet apart, which is about HALF of how I've had my other OR Sci unit running for years.

For this alone, I would hesitate to recommend to anyone. Tech support did not have good response/suggestions.
