Way Cool Weather Gadget !,
By The Cranky Consumer (Cary, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8025CH Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
Totally disagree with the prior poster's recommendation. My unit not only reads my temperature guage accurately, but it also catches two readings from my neighbors' weather stations. This unit has some really cool features, and I'm glad I paid a little extra to have them. The sun/moon settings are cool, and the barometric pressure readings and history are very handy in predicting the weather patterns. The only recommendation I have is the high/low temperature reading. I wish it reset itself daily, to give a daily high/low. Unfortunately it needs to be reset manually, so the high/low reads from the time you last reset the temperature.

Good Product Sans Range,

This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8025CH Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
Every facet of this product performs as advertised and I am pleased with its overall performance. The only real shortcoming is mentioned by other reviewers and can also be gleaned from the instruction manual (downloadable from La Crosse Technology's wedsite). The stated range estimations are not at all conservative. This is likely more problematic if you, like me, wish to use more than the one included sensor. Also related to the sensors is that the instructions imply that the order in which batteries are installed in the sensors during setup will determine the order in which their respective information will be viewed as you page through the sensors on the display. I contacted their support when this did not seem to be the case and they did confirm that they only appear in the order in which the receiver finds the signal and that there is no way to reliably predetermine the order. Again, not a big deal but potentially confusing if you're using three sensors. A missing, albeit minor, feature that never occured to me but would be really handy is backlighting. Finally, if you're reading this review now then add that fifth star. I see the price for this unit is now less than seventy bucks! I paid close to twice that through Amazon less than a month ago! At the current price it's more than a bargain.

Nice features, bad range,

The basic unit is very nice. I have a previous Oregon Scientific unit, and wanted to upgrade to get the barometer trend, humidity, and moon phase. Besides the LCD contrast not being as good, this LaCrosse unit is great.BUT, the range from the transmitter is TERRIBLE. Even with all brand new batteries, they can't be more than 20-25 feet apart, which is about HALF of how I've had my other OR Sci unit running for years. For this alone, I would hesitate to recommend to anyone. Tech support did not have good response/suggestions.

We bought this station this winter, and it has been really helpful knowing the outdoor conditions so readily. The unit itself is attractive and looks well-made. The display is easy to read and very intuitive.A few comments about the set-up of this product. Be sure to read the manual first! There are a few set-up processes that may not be apparent. For example, the remote sensor batteries need to be installed first, and then after the batteries are installed in the main unit, nothing should be done for at least ten minutes so the weather station and remote sensor can "talk to each other", and set-up process begins. That may be difficult because you are anxious to get this unit operational! There are many nice features including ranges for temperature, humidity. The moon phases, forecasts and atomic clock features are very nice! One comment is that the high range of my sensor seems to be reading higher than actual temperatures substantially. I didn't notice this during the winter, as the temperatures have reflected the Weather Channel tempratures very closely. However, about 50 degrees, it seemd a little off. At times it would read in the 70's, which I knew wasn't an accurate reading for Milwaukee in late winter! The sensor was initially in a little sunshine at times, which the manual stated place in dry, shaded area. I moved it to a shaded area and the sensor still read 10 to 20 degrees higher than what I thought it actually was. So I am going to try to move the sensor again or buy a new sensor-the manual states three kinds of sensors can be used. The unit comes with TX4U which will measure temperature and humidity, TX3U just temperature and TX3UP will measure via a probe for soil or water temperatures. I am going to have to read the manual more carefully as to me it isn't very clear how each remote sensor is assigned a number. The manual states to install multiple sensors take all batteries out of sensors and main unit, then replace batteries "sequentially in the sensors". Since the main unit is off at that time, I am not sure how the main unit will assign the numbers for each sensor. It states "follow same battery installation procedures as outlined" in set-up part of manual. For that part the batteries are installed then into main unit. I would imagine then the next sensor battery would be installed and the main unit would then recognize it. However, the manual clearly states under "multiple sensors" that the last part is to install batteries into main station. So I am not sure if manual is incorrect, or I am reading too much into this. If anyone else has used this with multiple sensors, that would be a helpful area to clarify and to see how well this unit works with multiple sensors.

Very neat gadget!,
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8025CH Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
While this weather center is not necessarily a staple in home decor or home meteorology, I have enjoyed it immensely. The fact that it adds a touch of class to any home or apartment, not to mention the fact that knowing the true temperature and humidity, both inside and outside of your home, makes managing your climate control devices (opening windows and/or turning on the heat or ac) that much more efficient. If you do not own one of these little gizmos, yet you're looking at this reveiw, I whole-heartedly urge you to pick up one of these gadgets; you will not be disappointed!

Every person who comes to our home always takes time to look at this fascinating product. There is so much good information about the weather, sunrise & sunset, etc. It's been very useful when planning evening activities to look at the outside temperature and the sunset time and then we plan accordingly. Knowing at least one clock in the house is accurate (because of the built-in atomic clock) is a real blessing too.

Love the product; tells you so much once you get it set up right.... Setting it up is tedious and a little frustrating.... The alarm is barely audible when not near the station.... Glad I got something reliable finally to tell me my weather conditions..

This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8025CH Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
The weather ststion works fine except for one problem. The area that is supposed to display the date displays 12:00. I have made a phone call and sent 3 e-mails to LaCrosse regarding this and have yet to receive a reply. The product itself is OK, but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Unless I am contacted shortly, I will not buy anything from them again.
