Product Description

Amazon.com

This gadget is geared to the serious weather nerd rather than your average outdoorsperson as it gives a more complete picture of weather patterns and has a more complex screen to decipher for readings. About the size of a television remote control, the base unit has rounded sides that fit comfortably in the palm of the hand or mount on a tabletop or wall for readings at a glance. The station reports the temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsius and the humidity for indoor locations and outdoor locations using a remote sensor. For more accurate outdoor readings, the base unit can receive information from up to three different sensors, which can each be placed up to 80 feet away. The weather station records the minimum and maximum temperatures and humidity readings within a 24-hour period and recalls them at your prompting.

A complicated-looking circular bar graph in the center of the screen shows the air pressure history for the last 12 hours and displays the current relative air pressure in inHg, mmHg, or hPa. A weather tendency indicator predicts weather for the next 12- to 20-hour time period based on air pressure changes in easy-to-understand grapichal icons. The wireless station even has a storm warning indicator to give you ample time to prepare for foul weather and a snow warning symbol that displays when temperatures dip below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

For added convenience, the wireless weather station has a clock that reports time in hours, minutes, and seconds in either a 12- or 24-hour time model and the accurate date. For precise time- and date-keeping, the gadget has a built-in antenna system that receives signals from the WWVB radio transmitter in Fort Collins, Colorado, which is in turn is regulated by the atomic clock. The clock can be set to one of 13 time zones, including all US times zones and Greenwich Mean Time. The wireless weather station requires two AA batteries for the receiver and another two for the remote and is covered by a one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with this desktop weather station..., December 12, 2003
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-9018 Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
I recently purchased this unit and I am very happy with it. It shows both indoor and ourdoor temperature/humidity values on the screen at the same time. It displays air presure which allows you to see what the weather is like and will be like in the next day or so. It also graphs the last 12 hours of barometric readings. Determing the weather forecast is easy and accurate. Temperature and humidty values seem very accurate as well. It also has min/max values for just about everything it monitors, and has various sampling rates for each of the stored values. It has a nice amount of features and performs each feature very well. Can't go wrong with this unit.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-9018 Wireless Weather Station (Kitchen)
They'll tell you it's too expensive and to get the $20 thermometer. On the other end the spectrum, they'll tell you it's a waste. It doesn't have rain gauges or anemometers. But, it's a bang for your buck. True, it's fairly expensive, BUT most weather stations that sell for about $30 less don't even tell you indoor humidity ( no indoor humidity.) Their outdoor sensors don't have humidity as a feature, either ( no outdoor humidity). This model's sensor, the TX7U, does detect humidity, as does the model itself. This model also gives you the EXACT barometric air pressure (fancy name for air pressure), not just an arrow showing barometric air pressure trends, like most other models. They (the other models) pretend to forecast the weather (in the form of those pesky icons). They fail. (They only rely on barometric air pressure. The Weather Channel has this as well as tons of info from Doppler radars and satellites. We all know how well they do!!!) This model only displays the barometric air pressure. Though it looks like it's trying to forecast the weather at first glance, you see that it's just a way of showing barometric air pressure after you read the fine print. It also has a bar graph showing how the barometric air pressure has fluctuated in the last twelve hours. In addition to this, it automatically records and stores Minimum/Maximum records for everything (temperature and humidity both outdoor and indoor, barometric air pressure) as well as the date and time it reached that minimum (or maximum). It features all this and more! Plus, it's only $100 at www.ambientweather.com (which is a very reputable dealer). Hope this review helps!!!

I was about to buy the Oregon Scientific Multi-Channel Weather Forecast Radio Controlled Clock BAR888 when I saw one review of that product that recomended this one instead. It costs almost the same but does a lot more, most importantly everything is displayed on the screen at once (indoor and outdoor temp and humidity).Great accurate product.
