Good Basic Station,
By
This review is from: La Crosse Technology Weather Channel WS-9077TWC Wireless Forecast Station (Kitchen)
This weather station is about as elementary as it gets. Its easy to set up, easy to read, and despite what the other reviewer here said about it being inaccurate, I have found it to be profoundly accurate when compared to two other more expensive stations I have. I believe accuracy in any of these stations depends mostly on the position of the sensor. Its harder than one thinks to find a fairly sheltered area that is out of the wind and direct sunlight. Try different places if yours seems consistently inaccurate. As far as this unit as it compares to others, most of these weather stations I have found are all about the price. Spend more money and you get more cool icons and numbers to look at. This unit has an atomic clock, (nice to have one clock in the house that is precisely accurate all the time), date, indoor and outdoor temperature, and a forecast icon which is really nothing more than a monitor of the barometric pressure. If it is heading up the icon will forecast fair weather. If its heading down it will display clouds. Despite this simple gaging technique, it is usually very accurate in most cases. And you also have the option of setting the sensitivity of the forecast icon. That is, to make it react more quickly to minor fluctuations in the barometric pressure, thus seeing the forecast icon change more often. (There was a time when all weather forecasting was pretty much done by just watching the barometer. I suggest keeping the sensitivity set to "medium", for setting it higher had mine changing far too often, and too soon). La Crosse units are one of the oldest and most reliable that there are going. My station has been running flawlessly since I installed it, and after 6 months the batteries in both the station and sensor still test out strong. One other thing, none of these units around this price could be considered overly generous in their screen display dimensions. Some, even ones that are more expensive can be down right cheap. They're so small you have to walk right up to them each time to read it. This units screen is a full 2" wide and 3 1/4 inches long. A decent enough size to see from several feet away. If you're interested in a simple easy to read accurate weather station/forecaster I would highly recommend this one...

AMAZON HAS AN ERROR!,

This review is from: La Crosse Technology Weather Channel WS-9077TWC Wireless Forecast Station (Kitchen)
I ordered this weather station. I got it up and running with it's remote sensor. Not a big deal. The temps on the base station and the receiver that came with the unit were very close...and it was easy to PROGRAM. Here's the RUB...the Amazon Site has an ERROR. If you want a REMOTE SENSOR TO WORK WITH THIS ONE...do NOT TRUST AMAZON. You need to TX29U-IT Sensor. LaCrosse says that this is the NUMBER ONE COMPLAINT with this unit...that Amazon has them LINKED.I am trying to get Amazon to return the incorrect sensor and replace it with the correct one. I doubt that will be a problem. However, for folks in the future to AVOID THIS HASSLE...you need to do some homework. Go to the LaCrosse Technology Website and do a SEARCH for the base or weather station that you want. When you find it, you will find in the SPECS the correct Remote Sensor. Hope this helps someoneelse avoid my issues and the hassle.

Ok Weather Station,

I rated it as a 3 weather station and not 5 because I bought this station for one reason. It's range. I read the description before I bought it and knew that walls would knock down its range. My hopes were too high. I was hoping it would penetrate 4 walls at about 125 feet distance (It has a stated range of 300 feet minus obstructions). That turned out to be to many obstructions for it. So I used it in another location. I also purchased the Weather Channel model W5-9625TWC-IT. It has Indoor/Outdoor temperature and humidty displayed all the time and has many other features also. I recommend it for features over this one.Update 07/14/2010: We have been using this weather station for 13 months and it has not failed. Update 08/18/2011: We are still using both weather stations and both are still working fine.

Amazon recommends that we purchase the TX6U wireless temperature sensor with this weather station. Don't! I did and it won't work. According to LaCross Tech support: The TX-6 will not work with the WS-9077-ITTX-6 is a 433mhz sensor. The WS-9077-IT is a 915mhz weather station. This will not work. Your Weather station comes standard with a TX-29-IT sensor, you would want to get another TX-29-IT sensor if you are going to use multiple sensors. You can not cross 433mhz units and 915mhz units. I had thought that when I returned this incorrect sensor with the note from LaCrosse that Amazon would change their recommendation but they haven't. Thanks Amazon for having a generous return policy but shame on you for recommending the wrong sensor. No problems with the weather station otherwise.

Nice weather station. Very complete information. Nice build quality and I love the back light for an early morning weather check. Very comprehensive list of weather info and the clock is set via a radio and is always very accurate. The Weather channel version are more money and do not offer anywhere near the information supplied on this unit. Very quick delivery too.

Transmiter didn't hold up well - lasted about 8 months; replaced once, second one was no more reliable than the first one lasting about 6 months.

Don't buy this product. I researched all of the weather stations on Amazon and bought this one because people seemed to like it. I bought 1 extra extension so we could have 2 outside. I read everyone's advice about how to set them up properly and followed the directions. At first, they seemed to work, both extensions were showing up on the weather station and it seemed fine. Within 1 days, the weather station lost 1 of the extensions and by day 2 the whole thing froze. The time, weather, everything just froze. So we had to start all over again - take down all of the extensions, reset, reconfigure, batteries in and out and sure enough it all worked again... for about 1 day. After it froze the second time and just wouldn't work, back to Amazon it went. Keep looking, there must be a better option out there!

Outdoor monitoring lasted one day,

After one day it quit transmitting data inside. Replaced the batteries, put the unit back outside and lasted about 5 minutes and quit again. We had another model for about 3 years without a problem and it finally quit, so I thought I would buy this model. Will probably try to return to WalMart for another one and see what happens.

This is a great weather station. I chose this one to replace an old one that had stopped working. It has the features that I like, including the icons for the weather forecast, and atomic clock. So far, it is working well!

Failed WS9077U-IT Weather Station,

This review is from: La Crosse Technology Weather Channel WS-9077TWC Wireless Forecast Station (Kitchen)
Four years ago, we received the WS9065-TWC Weather Channel Weather Station as a gift and enjoyed it until it stopped working in July. We replaced it with the WS9077U-IT, which I though was the same, but it's much smaller and uses 2 batteries instead of 3, like our old one. It registered the date correctley, but sometimes confused the time! The outside sensor wasn't powerful enough to get the info to the inside device and we only viewed dashes where the temp should be displayed. La Crosse was contacted by email and replied that we should change the batteries and move the inside device closer to the outside. We did both and it worked sporatically, especially in the morning and at the end of the day. This morning it surprized us with a reading of minus 40 degrees outside and the time was off by hours. We are returning it and hope we can find our original Weather Station somewhere. Amazon doesn't have it.
