Although smaller than I expected, this alarm clock fulfilled everything I expected--and it does it very well. The outside remote seems to be very accurate, and the projection works very well. It's very easy to see the time/outside temp at night, and I don't find it obnoxious at all. It's really does make it easier at those early morning moments when you're wondering what time it is. The clock set itself within minutes of being plugged in--not a problem. The remote took longer to communicate with, but worked perfectly once connected (read directions carefully from the beginning). The weather forecast is strangely accurate where I live (New Mexico). For example, it predicted rain the other night and both my wife and I thought it was way off. It rained the next day and night! Once I skimmed the directions, I found the clock to be easy to setup and use. I especially like that the huge snooze bar on top can be used to disable & reset the alarm in one step-very simple and easy!

It does everything the description says, and it does it very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Clock for the price, May 22, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WT-5442-BP Projection Alarm Clock with Forecast (Kitchen)
I purchased the WT-5442U based on the fact that it had the least amount of negative reviews at Amazon. And yes, I am very happy.

Put the batteries in the remote sensor, connect the clock to the power and don't push any buttons for 10 minutes. That's the entire set up! Of course, once you get the clock time, you need to adjust the timezone, and the alarm time. The usage is very intuitive. Most things I figured out in 10 minutes by myself. 10 more minutes over the manual and I knew everything there is to know about this clock.

This clock does a lot for the price and it does it right.

Things I didn't expect, but are pleasant:
1) you can adjust the snooze time
2) alarm 1 wakes you up, but if you are strong sleeper, it gets louder after 30 seconds.
3) adjust to 12/24 hours. Although the Celsius and Farenheit degrees are adjusted to that. European vs. US?
4) easy and intuitive to use

Things that could be better
1) projection only works if it's dark. It could be stronger for my sight. But it works.
2) projection arm only moves forward and back. No swivel. I don't know if any of the clocks swivel anyway. But again, no big deal.
3) like everybody else, I would like the blue background to stay on all the time. But that's not an option. Plus the blue makes a very fine buzzing noise. I wouldn't want that anyway.

All in all, this is a great clock. The price value performance ratio is excellent.

Well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great clock, just can't see it in the day, September 12, 2005

I really like this clock. Everything worked just as advertised. The auto time, remote weather, and projected display all worked great. In fact, the projected display worked all the way across my room with great clarity!

The only about this clock is I cannot see it when there is light in my room. When I wake up after sunrise, I have go to the clock to see what time it it.

When I walk through my room, I cannot glance over and see the time or the weather.

Because of that, I returned the clock and am still in search of the "right" clock for us.

3.0 out of 5 stars Revised review: Alarm tone is too quiet & hard to hear, December 20, 2006
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WT-5442-BP Projection Alarm Clock with Forecast (Kitchen)
My husband gave me this alarm clock as a gift and I was prematurely satisfied with the quality. I previously wrote a 5 star review and this is my revised 3 star review:

Although this alarm clock was slightly complicated to set, compared to other alarm clocks, it's worth the trouble and comes with a thick little manual. I'm enjoying the dual alarm settings and the snooze timer that can be changed from 1 to 59 minutes. I changed my snooze timer to go off after 1 minute and it doesn't let me fall back into a deep sleep like the standard 7 minute snooze timers. The time and weather projection can be set to display the time only, the weather only or alternating time & weather. I have the time only projected on a wall and it's a nice bonus and works very well.

The downfall of this alarm clock, that I didn't notice when I wrote my first review, is the quiet tone of the alarm. The chances of me hearing it are 50/50 and it only goes off for 1 minute and then shuts itself off and you're out of luck. There have been many days that I didn't hear this quiet alarm clock and thankfully still had my trusty Sony dream machine as a back up. I would only buy this La Crosse Technology alarm clock if you're a very light sleeper or if you're interested in the projection feature. It's not a very good alarm clock.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice clock, with a few shortcomings, December 11, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WT-5442-BP Projection Alarm Clock with Forecast (Kitchen)
I like the clock, and it works as I expected; however, there are a few things I find a little annoying:

* The outside temperature doesn't always register. Sometimes it seems to give me the indoor temperature instead (not sure how this is possible), and sometimes it just doesn't register a reading at all. I've tried moving it around, but I'm limited in where I can put it outside, since the device is not waterproof (didn't realize that when I bought it).

* When you press the light to see the display, the clock hums. The humming is only temporary, only as long as the light stays on (a few seconds). I wish there was a setting to have the backlighting stay on permanently. You can't read the clock in the daytime from any distance of more than a few feet.

Overall, I like the clock. The red light keeps the room dark, but still allows me to see the time and sometimes the temperature.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap imitation, November 10, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WT-5442-BP Projection Alarm Clock with Forecast (Kitchen)
I was very unimpressed with this clock for a few reasons.
1) the time area does not stay light even whhen plugged in which means you must push a button to see the time after dark.
2) The led projection is very faint and unless the room is almost pitch black(which includes street lights) you cannot see it on the ceiling (which is only 4.5 feet away)
3) the buttons are in a very strange sequence to use set/use the clock I wouldn't say it is very hard to use but different than other ones for sure

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat, techy, sophisticated...., April 18, 2006
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WT-5442-BP Projection Alarm Clock with Forecast (Kitchen)
Really like this clock. Everything worked like it was supposed to, and the time projects perfectly onto my ceiling at night. Guaranteed to impress anyone who sees your room at night. The weather predictor is amazingly accurate. It always turns out to be right. I like the temperature features because I know exactly when I can open my window and get fresh air without being frozen or roasted to death. The atomic update feauture is equally impressive (though most people wont think much of it, at least you'll know that you're always right on time!). Its a great clock, I highly reccomend buying it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Projection Clock - Nice, November 9, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WT-5442-BP Projection Alarm Clock with Forecast (Kitchen)
Pros:
1. Projection on the roof. It is really nice feature, you don't have to get up to see the time & out door temperature.
2. Forecast - I wasn't really sure if forecase prediction is real, but it realy works
3. outdoor temperature with remote sensor

Cons:
1. Projection doesn't work on day time, you can't see it if the room is very bright.
2. I thought there will be two projection, one for time and one for temp. but both are together, displayed alternate, it works anyway no big deal
3. There are no settings to keep the backlight on all the time.

Overall, con's are no big deal, it is just best to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great product!, November 9, 2006

This review is from: La Crosse Technology WT-5442-BP Projection Alarm Clock with Forecast (Kitchen)
I am pleased to let you know that I am very satisfied with this product. It does everything that it says it is going to do, and is a wonderful value for the price. I especially enjoy the projection. This isn't one of those cheap projectors that are found on some clocks. This clock projects large, bright, clear numbers on any wall or ceiling. What's more, you can adjust the orientation of the projection, so the projection won't be upside down at your area of perception. The weather forecasting tool is also extremely accurate. It is nice to know if you are going to need an umbrella or not before you leave! It hasn't failed me yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, August 30, 2006
This review is from: La Crosse Technology WT-5442-BP Projection Alarm Clock with Forecast (Kitchen)
I've had one of these for a couple of months now. I'm in AZ and it syncs with the atomic clock well. The projection works perfectly at night. I don't like ANY light in my room at night and it just puts out a faint red time and outside temp on the ceiling. It is not annoying at all. But it is also not bright enough to overcome any light. The projection is not readable in the day at all and the little light in the unit can't be set to stay on, so sometimes it's a little hard to read in the morning.

It's very configurable, easy to set up and a generally nice little unit. If the time and temp on the unit itself were a little bigger and therefore a little easier to read in the morning, I'd give it 5 stars.
