Works well, but be aware is Celsius-only,

The product works well, and in general I am pleased with it. However, I did not realize that this particular model displays ONLY in Celsius - there is no way to switch between Celsius and Farenheit. If you want a Farenheit display you must buy the other WS-1025 model (without the -CEL suffix). It's a little misleading in that the manual and all the box illos are identical for both models (they all show the device as reading in Farenheit). I can approximate the conversion in my head, and it's my fault for not doing more research before buying, but I thought I'd put this review in to keep others from being tripped up.

Worked for 2 years,

Mine worked fine for two years, then began reading about 30 degrees F high when it got wet.
I'd guess it has a leak and water shorts out some resistance-sensitive device. It can be "fixed" by putting it in stream of hot dry air for a few hours - a computer fan exhaust is good - but it will stop working again when it rains. The max-min feature is nice (but leave the clock set on standard time!). Hard to read at night. It's hard to locate so that it's not in direct sun at least part of the year, which affects the accuracy of the max/min if nothing else.

Good looking thermometre from La Crosse,

This is a very good looking thermometre. I like it and everybody liked it for its appearance.
The bad side is that the viewing angles are too small (especially vertical one). You must alight your head at some height to see the results. This is inconvenient, but otherwise the thermometre is good. |
