4.0 out of 5 stars Eye opening combat book
This is an extremely enlightening collection of short accounts of snipers during wartime. It was extremely interesting to my wife as her cousin wrote one of the articles about his Vietnam experiences. Each chapter had its special moments, but none more poignant than his when he wrote of his best "shot". In this example it was a case of him not taking off his safety which...

3.0 out of 5 stars A good book
For people that have an interest in Snipers and all they do, you've probably heard or read these stories before. Still, Carlos Hathcock's story is a good read again and again.

This is an extremely enlightening collection of short accounts of snipers during wartime. It was extremely interesting to my wife as her cousin wrote one of the articles about his Vietnam experiences. Each chapter had its special moments, but none more poignant than his when he wrote of his best "shot". In this example it was a case of him not taking off his safety which kept him from mistaking one of his own marines for a N. Viet namese. The whole book is filled with examples of heroism and real dedication to their comrades.

This collection of real stories explains the thoughts, emotions, tactics, skills, and importance of a snipers role in modern warfare and importance it has on positive results. Explained in real simple context but yet detailed down to every intense and drop of sweet moment.

Excellent account of the history of sniping with detailed stories of many who have served in this capacity throughout this country's wars. Almost as good as Carlos Hathcock's own account of his days in Viet Nam. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in this unique style of warfare or who has an eye and ear for history.

Sasser is known for capturing the "human" element and Craig the "nuts and bolts" to a story. Together they have put together a compilation that is very compelling. Some of the stories are hair raising in describing the danger experienced by these true life man hunters.

Some of the stories in this book mix into one big "sniper story", though some stand out and are remembered. A good continuation for "One shot, one kill" for those who are interested in the subject and do not expect much artistism or drama from the book. The sniper's vocabulary at the end of "Crosshairs..." is also interesting. Thank you for the book!

This is mostly about USMC snipers and how effective they are. How 2 men alone in the battleground can stop a company or more of enemy. Mostly its about the actual kills.
I wish there was more on training, how to handle the site selection and body needs though.

This book is composed of a number of really good stories and documentation of actual military snipers at work, and how they got to be snipers. It also shows how important these men are to modern day warfare, particularly when they have at hand a 50 caliber rifle that can be fired one shot at a time. Also,up to date military technology, such as laser distance finders and NVG's (Night Vision Goggles) make these snipers a key and overwhelming element in modern warfare.

3.0 out of 5 stars shooter, not writer, July 26, 2005

Mr. Roberts is a real sniper, but needs a better editor to be a good writer. The book is a series of short chapters, not really tied together in any coherent fashion. A few technical errors detracted from my enjoyment of the book. Some interesting vignettes, but not an addition to my precision shooting library.
