many of these songs are traditional russian folk songs, played on bluegrass instruments. the result is a perfect blend of russian and appalacian folk music. THe pickin' is great, and the vocals are superb.

Kukuruza is super....wonderful bluegrass music with a Russian twist! Really makes you think you're "Back in the USSR" yuk yuk!

Jerry Douglas, one of the best Dobro players in the U.S. who plays with Allison Krauss,, adds to this CD as well bigtime.

try playing this a bit louder than you would ordinarily play bluegrass. I had the pleasure to see these folks in person (playing in a church) and Ms. Surina's voice literally shook the rafters.
