5.0 out of 5 stars Not just another "woo woo" book

This covers anything from New Age wisdom to Ancient Oriental Philosophy to UFOs. As a sales and marketing tool this helps isolate the markets where sales are most likely to be strong. 3.0 out of 5 stars GET TO KNOW WHAT HE CAN REALLY DO
Okay, so John is admired by many and questioned by just as many. But I re-read the book after I read the Afterlife Experiments by Dr. Gary Schwartz in which John Edwards is validated. He took part in some fascinating scientific tests done in the lab at the University of Arizona and so one can better believe his charming book. Mr. Edwards is better "seen" in...

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just another "woo woo" book, August 20, 2001
By A Customer
I have worked in the field of publishing sales for over 23 years and Crossing Over falls in the category we always call "woo woo" inside the industry. This covers anything from New Age wisdom to Ancient Oriental Philosophy to UFOs. As a sales and marketing tool this helps isolate the markets where sales are most likely to be strong. The Northwest is one of the strongest markets for this stuff and I happen to live there as well. I love just about any alternative thinking about life, death, and existance. I've been impressed with John Edward's casual and confident style on his TV show and this book takes up a lot of questions I've posed myself like whether he is reading minds or actually in contact with another dimension of reality that I've always suspected exists. Rather than concentrate on convincing the reader that he is the real thing John relates in a matter-of-fact way how his career took shape, the lessons he has learned along the way, and the joys and frustrations he and other psychics experience. I am struck by this young man's personal wisdom and willingness to expose his own human frailities as they relate to his own path of spiritual enlightenment. Not only is this an entertaining read, it is thought provoking and grounded in everyday reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Journey Continues..., August 21, 2001
By A Customer
In "Crossing Over: The Stories Behind the Stories", the reader enters John Edward's world as he progresses from his private mediumship occupation into the public eye with his now-syndicated show "Crossing Over with John Edward". Like his first book, there are more riveting tales of amazing readings and spiritual encounters. However, this book focuses moreso on the behind-the-scenes-footage of John's battle with his newfound fame as well as his transition to popular TV: success does come with a price.

John discusses his own journeys, his encounters with the skeptics, and his attempts to help educate people in letting them know that there really is more out there than what we see and what we know. Those who have read "One Last Time" will recognize some of the people and stories mentioned in that book, as well as hear how John's quest for his "three signs" had him searching for answers he already knew he possessed. Like many of his clients, John kept waiting for "one more sign".

I bought this book the minute it hit the shelves locally, and read it from cover to cover shortly after. And just like after reading "One Last Time", you cannot help but want what most of John's clients usually want -- "just a little more". If you've read his first book, you have to check out his follow-up story.

And if that doesn't grip you, perhaps one of John's readings will -- possibly providing the answer to the question of our time: has Elvis really "crossed over"?

John's ability to face the issues and the skeptics with sarcasm and humor will have the reader in his corner, wanting him to prove the skeptics wrong. With his show going into syndication, he should definitely have more viewers and "believers" behind him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great experiences told by John Edward, August 23, 2001
By
Carol Alaniz (near Detroit, Michigan) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
John Edward on the page 'sounds' just like he does in his show. Warm and sometimes funny. And, he has a way of writing that made me almost feel like I was right there with him as he went through the experiences. This book was written to let his fans of the 'Crossing Over' show know what it has been like to slowly become famous. From his first foray into radio on WPLJ New York, to the meetings surrounding the formation of "Crossing Over', John Edward takes the reader step by step though the doubts and fears (and sometimes anger) he felt.

Much of the book is devoted to experiences that connected people he knew (and people he didn't know) with their loved ones on the 'other side.' This book was written in a way that shows even John has been amazed by a lot of the experiences he's had.

Lots of things came through to John that, when you read it, you SWEAR it's all a coincidence. NOPE...John Edward believes that in life, there are NO coincidences. This certainly seems to be the case in his life. The book also mentions that everything written is true and there have been no exaggerations in any way, shape, or form.

Whether you believe that everything happens for a reason or not, the book is a great read. Don't miss the chapter "Legends of Rock" This was an experience that blew John Edwards' mind and blew my mind as well. I had to read it twice in order for everything to sink in.

Even if you are a bit of a skeptic regarding after-death-communication, get this book from a library, and, if you don't like it, return it. For fans of the 'Crossing Over' show on the SciFi Channel, get the book! I think many of the experiences in this book will stay with you for awhile.

I would like to thank John Edward for sharing how the TV show "Crossing Over with John Edward" started. It was very interesting to know what he went through to get to the point he is at now. The stories he shared were great. Thank you and God bless.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book!, August 21, 2001
By
"larar1" (Eden Prairie, MN USA) - See all my reviews
In his latest installment, John Edward continues his journey of self-exploration about his life as a psychic medium. Perhaps more greatly influenced by "The Boys" this time, John's writing is edgier and more direct. His candor about his life and the things that have influenced him (both positively and negatively) give "Crossing Over" its punch. As with "One Last Time," there is no shortage of emotional stories from past readings he has done. Although with this book, "Crossing Over," I didn't ONLY cry this time, I also blurted an, "Oh, wow ..." with each amazing story.

The way the subject matter is presented throughout the book leaves the reader with an abundance of opportunities to draw their own conclusions about this complicated possibility ... communicating with the dead. In an interesting twist, John recounts how science tried to prove or disprove the existence and legitimacy of the work he does. The questions that forces the reader to examine about their own beliefs sets the stage for what will hopefully be explored further by John in future books. This book is a great companion to his TV show on the Sci Fi channel and I wouldn't recommend one without the other. Watch the show, read his books and challenge yourself to consider the possibilities. Thanks, John, for a great book! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Crossing Over - what a ride!, August 23, 2001
By
Ellen (Eau Claire, WI) - See all my reviews
One of the nicest things about reading John's work is that it is very conversational. That makes it easy to read and a little easier to appreciate just how difficult the whole process was and is. There was certainly no 'magic' in this latest experience. I cannot imagine having to endure such an emotional ride just to get the tv people to understand they really didn't have any control over 'destiny'. The fun part is having them come to their own realizations - I got several good laughs out of those excerpts. For those that have not yet read this book I say sit back and be prepared for some amazing reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spirituality without Bombastic-ality, April 1, 2002
"I see dead people" is probably the most repeated movie-line I've heard since Sixth Sense came out. But never before have I had cause to believe that someone might. John Edward has only been recently known to me (it takes a while for TV to catch up Down Under), but from the first Crossing Over, I was immediately drawn in.

I have never questioned that what John does is for real, although I may question why anyone wants to connect with "dead" people. John simply cannot be a fraud: who in the world would have enough time and energy to "research" all these tiny little details about people's lives and passed loved ones to stand up in front of a gallery of audience and spout messages from the Great Beyond? Not humanly possible. But spiritually, yes.

I am not a religious person, but I am spiritual. And I believe in fate. Never have I considered picking up (let alone reading) a book like this. I believed books on spirituality and mysticism simply self-indulgent (and therefore repulsive).

And then comes along Mr. Edward -- and he blows my mind away. I walk into the bookshop, and like the show, it is my husband who leads me to this book. Here is someone, suddenly, unexpectedly, who time and again proves to me that there is more to life than we usually believe. He does so without fanfare and baroque-like picture painting. The man is deadpan, straight, bona fide.

Things happen for a reason. A reason bigger than any of us can envisage.

This book is simply an exquisite indulgence that allows us to delve shamelessly into John's life and those around him: both here and elsewhere. It outlines some breathtaking happenstances that John has enviably been involved with. Without doubt, here is a person who has a very definite role in life, and after.

I have a hundred-and-one questions for John. Someone this interesting inspires intrigue at the very least. Wouldn't he be just to most fascinating person to interview?

And as John says in his opening chapter: the very fact that I even picked up the book, is for a reason. Probably at least two in my case, but that is yet to develop.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Worthwhile Read!, September 9, 2001
For John Edward fans this is an enlightening glimpse into the life of a young man who has become a phenomenon. The history of how the show, Crossing Over, came about is interesting and frustrating at the same time. John's quirky personality comes through his words and you feel as though he is sitting next to you telling the story. I was lucky enough to see John in person and he is as "real" as you and I. What a pleasure to see success for a young person who can admit to his own faults, stand up for his principles, and work to maintain his humility. The book is a roller coaster ride glimpse into his life. If you want to read about his contacts with the other side, you would do better to read "One Last Time." If you want to read about John Edward, this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vibrational!!!, March 31, 2002
I'm not going to go into great detail because so many outstanding reviews have already done a great job of that, so I'll just say I concur! I will say, however, that a) I'm not finished, but cannot put this book down and b) I'm seeing my own "connections" coming through loud and clear on his pages. That's no joke. Every page I turn, there's a new verifiable message right there in black and white: answers to tormenting questions I've had; support for beliefs I've developed; proof positive that things I *thought* were spiritual connections, actually are!

Read the book. You will NOT be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars The real John Edward shines through, September 4, 2001
I am a years-long fan of John Edward since being fortunate enough to have a private reading with him back in 1999. I've read and loved all his books and most recently this one. It's different from the rest ... here John goes to town with his true personality and details of his struggles to get where he has gotten. No bull. Just honest, straightforward accounts of his experiences both good and bad since deciding to devote his life to mediumship. For me, the book solidified my trust in this man and in the process he brings to us in his TV show. There is a lot of show biz talk and inside info in it, including full names, dates and circumstances, and some of that flew over my head. But there's a reason he has it in there ... brutal, upfront honesty and accuracy. The way he conducts his work is also the way he presents this book. I was so impressed that I ordered a copy for my cousin as well. If you are looking for an intriduction into the afterlife, read his book One Last Time. Once you have the basics down, move on to this book, it really brings everything together.
