Book Description

December 30, 2005
'Transgender' has become a convenient umbrella term to cover a collectivity of individuals (including cross-dressers, transvestites, transsexuals and intersexuals) who do not conform to traditional norms of gender identity and behaviour. This book is a compilation of autobiographies of men and women who openly and frankly describe their often very difficult journeys. Using a decade-by-decade format, the contributors provide the reader with critical insights into the process of realisation that led to their various gender expressions. Their life stories make clear that a good deal of diversity exists within the gender community.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read, September 17, 2006
This review is from: Crossing Sexual Boundaries: Transgender Journeys, Uncharted Paths (Paperback)
As one of the contributors to this book I found the stories heart warming and enlightening. Not all of us succeed in every endeavor of our lives, but the challenge to each of us is the quality of our journey! The journeys discussed here will make you cry, laugh and appreciate your own chosen path through this life. This is a must read for anyone wanting to understand the gender diversity of those living in and around you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mainstream, August 23, 2007
By
This review is from: Crossing Sexual Boundaries: Transgender Journeys, Uncharted Paths (Paperback)
A tidy collection of memoir essays, pitched at a medium tempo and down home. Alas, not a whole lot of variety here; most of these voices are early-boomer MtF CDs and TSs, with emphasis on Tri-Ess. The (FtM and F) exceptions are the coolest - Bet Power's "My Wonderful Askewness" is 1st-rate translit and Helen Boyd ("The Wife") contributes a nice outline of her experiences. I did love a few details here and there - dropping acid and noting longhair on (trans)hippies - which jazzed me ... but ... mainly ... the same old stuff, most fitting for a mainstream (M CD) audience. Oh, yeh, a few typos throughout, too.

As I am one of the Authors of a story contained in this book I find the editing, production ,front cover and basic issues discussed are very good. All stories are relevant and provide a good discussion of the subject Matter.
