Book Description

January 6, 2012
For years, Amber traipsed around the Northwest avoiding the skeletons in her closet. Job-hopping every few weeks, she refused to let anyone get close to her as she slowly made her way east. As winter plants itself firmly across the Rockies, she decides to take a chance on a job at a logging company with a family different from any she s ever known before. Watching the family interact creates more questions than answers for Amber. Feeling like she s entered the happily-ever-after written at the end of fairytales, she watches for cracks in the façade. Surely as the days pass, the play-acting will cease and the real family will emerge. Or could she be wrong? Could they truly be genuine? Could Faye understand the trauma from her past or Peter think of her as more than just the winter office help? Could this family really hold the key to what she s seeking?

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I take seriously the fact that I am to monitor what I put in my mind and my heart. Just another reason to recommend this book. It is obviously written from the perspective of a Christian. Faith, forgiveness, hope and prayer are main characters in this story. With writers like Carrie Daws on the horizon I am confident that there will be plenty of options that will encourage and uplift for years to come." -Shannon, CWA Review Crew

"...liked being able to get caught up in a beautiful story of faith, family, and friends." -Heather, CWA Review Crew

About the Author

Over the years, God rewrote Carrie s dreams to include being a stay-at-home mom and a writer. Originally writing weekly devotions as a way to share what she learned with women from various military bases, Carrie decided to enroll in the Christian Writer s Guild. While there, seeds were planted and cultivated. After almost ten years in the military, Carrie s husband medically retired and they now live in central North Carolina with their three children. Besides writing fiction novels, she stays busy with homeschooling, working part time, and volunteering within two military ministries.

More About the Author

Me? A writer? That's what I would have said before God pushed the issue. I just liked to write devotions and post them online for women to read. But then God introduced me to the Christian Writer's Guild and I discovered that writing fiction wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. With the help of an encouraging mentor and friends with a voracious fiction appetite, Crossing Values was completed, shortly followed by it's sequel, Ryan's Crossing (coming soon!).

Along the way, my husband medically retired from the United States Air Force. After years of constant moving, we settled in central North Carolina with our three children. Besides writing novels, I stay busy with homeschooling, working part time, and volunteering within two military ministries.

I strive to write clean fiction. I love happily-ever-after stories that gently advocate Biblical values and I believe in advocating healing from past hurts and families uniting in difficult circumstances. More than anything, I want the hope of Christ to permeate each of my books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crossing Values April 10, 2013
Format:Perfect Paperback
Absolutely entertaining and enjoyable! Those are the first words that crossed my mind when I finished the novel. There are many themes in this short book, but the one that really spoke to me is how God desires us to know we are His treasured possession. After that element, the way God takes broken people then makes them whole by His love spoke to me too.
Here we read about Amber who has been on her own for a long time, moving from place to place. She always tries to remain aloof, afraid of being hurt again so deeply. She is riddled with guilt and not really looking for anything, settling in one place was much too scary. A family who has shared both joys and sorrows opens their home to anyone God brings across their paths. Here begins Amber's introduction to the God who seeks her with everlasting love.
There is romance, intrigue and a picture of what it means to live a life of faith without having all the answers first. Carrie Daws shares her gift of writing with her faith which shows very obviously in this novel. I was able to sit back and read it within a couple of hours just marveling at the power of simplicity. What do I mean? Like Jesus and His parables, here is a simple yet profound story that will move anyone's heart who reads it. This just goes to show that it doesn't have to be a long or huge novel to simply show the beauty of His love. If you visit my blogs, you will see that I read various lengths of fiction novels and sometimes nonfiction books. Books are loved because our hearts yearn for stories, and the greatest book and story is contained in The Bible. So grab a copy today and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Crossing Values - A Great Modern-Day Fairy Tale April 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Yes, this was quite predictable. Yes, this was almost too good to be true.
Yet, this was so totally uplifting and well-written, it would benefit all to read
and enjoy this booklet. I am, personally, looking forward to many more of the
author's incredible stories and talented writing. There was never a lull in the
story and incidents kept quickly moving on, holding the reader's interest.
Great for Book Club discussions and clean enough for any age.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good solid Christian fiction March 27, 2013
By Jan
Format:Perfect Paperback
After years of wandering, Amber Griffin happens upon the little town of Crossing, Oregon and decides to look for a job and a place to stay. She finds herself living and working in the home of Frank and Faye Yager, but she can't believe this Walton-type family is for real.

When she realizes the authenticity of the Yager family and their firm faith in God, she gradually begins to trust them--even to love them, but as Amber's story unravels, so does her life. Someone is looking for her. What do they want and are they going to take from her the best thing that's happened to her in sixteen years?

Author Carrie Daws places her characters in realistic small town America. The setting supports and warms the story. The characters, are clearly defined. The plot moves along steadily, with a few nice twists and relational interests to increase suspense.

But for me, the best parts of the story are the positive traits of the characters, the confirmation that there are still functional families in this world, good people who really care about others, even strangers, but that their goodness comes not from themselves but from the forgiving God who sustains them.
