3.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Story
A novel set during WW2 not as good as some of DS's other books based on the world wars, found it dragged on just a little.

It was an easy read though having said that and I enjoyed reading it.

I have been reading Danielle Steel's books for over 15 years now. Sometimes they do get a bit "all the same" with most of the characters being important, successful, beautiful people who live in "stately homes" and wear "important jewels and furs". Sometimes I think the characters are more about what they have then who they are. Despite this, I always enjoy her books - they are easy to read, romantic and make you forget about everyday life for a couple of hours while engrossed in the book. Personally I think her earlier books are more enjoyable and get more involved in the characters than some of the later books she has written.

Crossings is one my favourites. I love the the character of Liane - her courage to stand by her husband while everyone is against him. A novel set during WW2 and one that you will really enjoy if you are new to Danielle Steel - give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great story, April 25, 2002
This review is from: Crossings (Paperback)
I don't know what else to say, except this is a great love story.
It's a journey when you read DS, I've read all of her books, and they are all wonderful. If you read her, be prepared to read all 50 of her books though, you'll be hooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars MAGIC, February 16, 2000
This review is from: Crossings (Paperback)
Well from the other reviews I'm not sure what they were reading! I have read this book several times and love it more each time I finish... Danielle Steel makes the war era come alive for those readers who were not yet alive to experience it... I found this book to be well written and very uplifting... Lianne and Nick have found someting beautiful and lasting in the face of all that destruction from a war...It gives me courage to fight for what I believe in. Danielle Steel gives me faith in human nature.. She also gives me the courage to stand tall and be accounted... Thank you for making my life just that much more blessed...

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked the mini series better than the book, May 13, 2010
This review is from: Crossings (Hardcover)
I read lots of novels by Danielle Steel, but this one is her master piece and almost as good as the mini series with Cheryl Ladd playing Liane.
Wish Steel would write other WW II novels as there are so very few out there. I gave "Crossings" 4 stars, because I think that only Herman Wouk's "The Winds of War" really deserves 5 stars.
But it's indeed a well researched WW II novel and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it for the first time after having watched the mini series over the past 10 years several times.

There are quite a few differences between the mini series and the book. What I liked better in the TV production was Armand's son (who does not exist in the book) and his Jewish girlfriend Marisha.
In the book Liane de Villiers has two little daughters, in the TV version she has no children.

Also I think the film better explains Armand's struggle with his job in France after Liane returned to the US than the book does.

Read this book, but don't miss the mini TV series. It's gorgeous! They don't produce such compelling movies anymore...

5.0 out of 5 stars Danielle Steel at her very best!, July 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Crossings (Paperback)
As someone who has read all of Danielle Steel's books, this still remains my favorite. The mini- series starring Cheryl Ladd, Lee Horsley, Jane Seymour and Christopher Plummer was one of the best made-for-TV movies. This love story during WWII is of epic proportion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story but Ms. Steel needs to tone down the VULGARITY!, October 13, 2010

a viewer "a viewer" (antioch, tn United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crossings (Paperback)
This is the only Danielle Steel book that I have read that ever made me cry. It was a good story. True, her characterizations lack depth and are kind of hollow.....but reading Steel is a guilty pleasure.

If you are offended by bad language...please do NOT read Ms. Steel. I find myself "whiting out" the vulgarity in her books. There is no need for it. Bad language adds nothing to the story and makes the characters less likeable. She can write a good story without being trashy and filthy.
