Whoever studies the history of Israel and the Middle East, but is not familiar with C. Sykes' opus, misses a lot. Sykes is a great historian, wise observer and lucid analyst; his work is still much relevant. His biography of Orde Wingate and Essays, together with the Crossroads, should be compulsory readings at relevant University departments.
