From Booklist
Another sweeping saga from the author of Wind of the Wolf (2003), Crosswinds begins in North Carolina, where Cat (Catherine Lynch Kincaid) waits for a monthly visit from her husband, Ty, who has joined the Confederate army and is currently stationed in the mountains of Virginia. The story then jumps to Cat's father's ranch in Wyoming, where Jenny and Chase are raising their own son as well as that of Jenny's deceased twin, and then zooms off to New Orleans, where Cole Larrimore is searching for his vanished niece, Amanda. Holby alternates between assuming knowledge of and concern for her characters, and offering meandering, highly descriptive passages that do little to forward the story, develop the characters, or inspire much interest. But readers who enjoy lush description for its own sake (as so many do), battle scenes from the Civil War, and continuing family chronicles will want to start with the previous volume and keep on reading.
