5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Challenge for Kids -- No Electricity Required!, March 27, 2000
By
This review is from: Crosswords for Kids (American Mensa Puzzle Books) (Paperback)
Trip Payne's "Crosswords for Kids" kept my fourth-grader engrossed for days. The difficulty level was perfect for him -- the puzzles were challenging and interesting, but he could do them mostly by himself. He specifically wanted to do crosswords, like his parents, and not word searches or mazes. This book has only crosswords -- 40 puzzles, each averaging around 90 clues. I've only found one or two other books that rivaled it, and I hope Mr. Payne continues to fill the need for this kind of book.

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves it!, April 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Crosswords for Kids (American Mensa Puzzle Books) (Paperback)
After helping me with my puzzles on simple clues such as, City in Iowa, my daughter wanted to be able to do her own crossword puzzles. This book is the answer. She says, "They are fun, and they educate you." I would highly recommend this for anyone with a budding crossworder.

5.0 out of 5 stars my granddaughters loved it, December 19, 2009

This review is from: Crosswords for Kids (American Mensa Puzzle Books) (Paperback)
My granddaughters always wanted to join in my crossword puzzle solving.
They were frustrated and got bored very quickly
I bought them this book, and they were busy, solving and they just loved it.
Some puzzles were too easy for the 9 year old, but most were right up her alley.
We all do puzzles together, and it's great for their vocabulary and for their
thinking process. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for kids who want to do "real" crossword puzzles but don't have the life experience to understand sophisticated clues, June 10, 2011

This review is from: Crosswords for Kids (American Mensa Puzzle Books) (Paperback)
My daughter, 8, a strong reader with a good vocabulary, kept trying to do New York Times crossword puzzles, but kept getting frustrated because the clues so often had cultural references totally out of her realm of experience.

And when I searched online for kids' puzzles, the ones I found were generally very simplistic -- really vocabulary quizzes rather than puzzles.

This book is perfect for her. Just challenging enough to be interesting, but she can actually complete most of them, which thrills her. Great buy. We'll get more in the series when she'd done.
