5.0 out of 5 stars Revell delivers a great score
Graeme Revell's instrumental music for "The Crow" is truly one of the outstanding film scores of the 1990s. The film contains some very dark and disturbing subject matter. The story occurs in a nightmarishly apocalyptic city, and follows the adventures of an undead hero (a memorable performance by Brandon Lee) on an often violent mission of revenge.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, yet derivative.
I have to admit that this score is absolutely brilliant, and it fit the mood of the movie perfectly. However, and this is a big however, it is entirely too derivative of the score that Peter Gabriel created for the film "The Last Temptation of Christ". Most of this score seemed to be an 'industrialized' version of the same sound that Peter Gabriel had already...

5.0 out of 5 stars Revell delivers a great score, April 17, 2001
This review is from: The Crow: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
Graeme Revell's instrumental music for "The Crow" is truly one of the outstanding film scores of the 1990s. The film contains some very dark and disturbing subject matter. The story occurs in a nightmarishly apocalyptic city, and follows the adventures of an undead hero (a memorable performance by Brandon Lee) on an often violent mission of revenge.

Graeme meets the challenge of this cinematic vision brilliantly. The music for the film blends the feeling of classic film scoring with a contemporary pop/rock vibe. The tone of the music is dark, but contains moments of hopeful beauty.

One of the really noteworthy aspects of this score is the exotic flavor that permeates it. Revell achieves this partly through the innovative use of ethnic instruments: the liner notes list the Armenian dudek and the shakuhachi among the instruments used. Frenzied percussive effects and bells also add to the overall feel of the music. Revell's score also makes effective use of choral voices to attain a haunting, mystical effect.

Serious students of film scoring should definitely listen to this innovative music. "The Crow" is a dark, romantic, and beautiful achievement.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE SCORES, October 12, 2001
This review is from: The Crow: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
What an amazing accomplishment, Graeme Revell is to be applauded. This music goes beyond words. It goes straight to the heart. Music should do that. Music is a universal language that is capable of expressing emotions so deep and complex that there are no words to fully express. Rare is music that lives up to this feat. The Crow score does so brilliantly. I never tire of it. And I never will.

Buy this, dim the lights, lie down and listen. Truly listen. Close your eyes and feel the power of heart and soul inside. It is in you and waiting to come out. Soar, my friends.

Soaring Heart

5.0 out of 5 stars A diverse soundtrack with wonderfully mixed elements, June 11, 2000
This review is from: The Crow: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
As a movie the crow was revolutionary. it paved the way for the modern gothic film and it is just as fitting that the musical accompaniment should be the same. graeme revelle, one of my favorite movie composers, continues his style by mixing modern rock instruments with those of far away places. the outcome is something from a dream. it reminds me of a mysterious surrealism painting. if you enjoy inventive, off beat, but wonderful music, you will soon fall in love with this soundtrack. i have not met one person whose ever turned to me and said they didn't like it. they've said it's a little weird, but that's what i find so enchanting about it. listen to the samples and fall in love with it for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST ACORES EVER! ENOUGH SAID!!!!!, July 20, 2011
This review is from: The Crow: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
The title of this review accurately sums up my thoughts & feelings on this score. I love each & every track. But I have to point out some things:

- This is the track listing as it appears on the cd:

1. Birth of the Legend
2. Resurrection
3. The Crow Descends
4. Remembrance
5. Rain Forever
6. Her Eyes...So Innocent
7. Tracking the Prey
8. Pain and Retribution
9. Believe in Angels
10. Captive Child
11. Devil's Night
12. On Hallowed Ground
13. Inferno
14. Return to the Grave
15. Last Rites

The problem is I don't think the track order is completely proper. It is almost there though. I am in the middle of fixing that. When I'm done, I'll update this review with the proper order.

- "The Crow Descends" track seems to be missing a cue in the beginning, a small one. Watch the film & listen to this to see for yourself.

- A lot of times, the way score tracks sound in films are different than how they sound on the soundtracks. I'm not exactly sure why that is. I first noticed this ironically from The Crow. The track, "Pain And Retribution" sounds different or appears to sound different than how it's heard in the film. And the film itself appears to have 2 different versions. It's heard twice in the film. First time is when Eric relives his & Shelley's deaths and when he does the flip outside his broken window to find out he can heal. The second time is when he explodes T-Bird's car(with T-Bird inside) & that ever so iconic scene where a flaming Crow symbol appears on the street in front of him. If you listen to all 3, you may feel like you're listening to 3 different versions just like me. The better headphones you have, the better you'll notice the difference(s).

I wish this had film version tracks of the score & film edit versions of the songs that are heard in the film on the soundtracks.

However, those little things aside. GREAT SCORE! What else can I say about this that hasn't been said already? Legendary iconic score for a legendary iconic film. It's beautiful & sad as the film is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great to buy with original soundtrack, December 29, 2008

I bought this along with the original soundtrack as I became a HUGE "The Crow" fan. The music on this score is very good, but I prefer listening to lyrics along with it. Good to buy together, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music of Crow...., August 17, 2003
This review is from: The Crow: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
The music of this movie (being that the movie it self was a amazing story in itself) adds to the excitment and the wonder of what could possibly be a new way of looking as life and death. I think the music is a wonder to listen to with or without the watching of the movie...as it moves your blood faster through your body , you feel the life run through you. And you feel more alive and appreciate the life you were given. A keeper for all those that have a darkside.

I was blown away by the music. When you're watching a movie, often the score is buried and this one is worth being resurrected. What makes it more powerful is knowing what the music represents; when you know it's about a never dying love, you can hear it, when you know about Brandon Lee's tragic death, the music reminds us of his last days standing. Various sounds and verses are attached to a scene or a character, and them music takes you with them to relive the sad and terrifying journey of The Crow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chilling and yet inspirational; i love this score!, July 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Crow: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
Graeme Revell has got the handle on the feeling of this film. The haunting innocence of boys' choir voices over mood-altering music that can lift you and sink your stomach. This is a must have if you had any connection with this movie at all and you like music. The dark, gothic element with a touch of classical innocence lost is a great meditation or background for ambience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touchingly beautiful and mysteriously painful, December 4, 1998
This review is from: The Crow: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
Graeme Revell's score for the first movie helped to make the movie what it is. With its blend of rock, goth, classic, and choir music, it creates an atmosphere without which the movie would not be as good. "Inferno" is my favorite track (the rooftop guitar solo), but every song bursts with pain, depression, and amidst that is an emotional optimism that helps deliver the message of the movie very well. Graeme Revell's soundtracks are always good, but this has to be his best one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, wonderful Music score, February 8, 1999
This review is from: The Crow: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
I love the first Crow music score! When you hear the score, you feel like you are back in the movie, remembering every scene! I absolutely love Graeme Revells scores! Whether the movie is good or not, Greame always finds the way to move you with his dark "gothic" music. Not that the crow was a bad movie, well the first one was great, but the second one....well if you buy the first crow music score, i definetly believe you should buy the crow/city of angels music which was also done by Graeme Revell. the second crow music score is great, the second movie, well...no comment..
