Great Journey Back To The Sixties,
By
This review is from: In Crowd, The (1988) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
[...]. This movie is a nostalgic look at a time when our country was very different from what it has now become. It covers the transition from the early Beatle era to the hippie scene. However, it is the dancing which is superb; fascinating to watch. Anyone who remembers Dick Clark and his regular troop of dancers when they were still in Philadelphia will really experience flashbacks! Great soundtrack too. If you love music, dancing and a good plot about a DJ who desperately tries to save his show and prevent the end of an era, don't hesitate to buy this great film.

I have loved this movie since I first saw it probably ten years ago when I was 13 years old!! I have been searching for it and I'm SO glad I've found it at Amazon! It's by far, a classic 80's movie, although set in the 60's...ABSOLUTELY A 'HAVE TO SEE' MOVIE!

I Remember...,
This review is from: In Crowd, The (1988) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
First, to help out another reviewer, the song Del first dances to is by Tina Britt. The title: "The Real Thing." I too, really like that song. Someone told me it is available on the net, but you really have to search for it and of course it is illegal to download.
Anyway, my father owned radio and television stations. He gave Dick Clark his first broadcasting job in Utica, New York. I won't go into the details, but suffice it to say Mr. Clark was way ahead of his time. He told my father (after thanking him for the opportunity) that he would be out of Utica in a year and on to bigger and better things. My father thought the brash young man had the same stars in his eyes a million others did. Nevertheless Dick Clark did precisely what he said he would do. A year later he was hosting American Bandstand in Philly. Phenomenally successful by the standards of the time he recognized the limitations of a Philadelphia venue and so decided to move AB to the West Coast. When he made the announcement every DJ in Philly wanted their shot to replace him. Of course, by that time the whole concept seemed to be dying a slow death. Dancing was out...the Beatles and Bob Dylan were in. "The In Crowd" is an excellent recount of that era's swan song. Ironically, it stars Donovan Leitch, the son of the 60's sort-of icon Donovan ("Wear Your Love Like Heaven," "Mellow Yellow" etc.) Young Donovan does a great job as do most of the cast. A kid from the burbs with an idealized vision of a blonde on local TV, he mixes with the urban diddy-boppers and shows them a trick or two in the process. Lots of great pre-British invasion, semi-soul music, good dance numbers and a decent story line with one or two interesting twists. Thoroughly likable, if you lived in the era the movie will remind you of people you once knew. Every town of any size had one one of these shows. Knock-offs to be sure, some of them really terrible, if you got on, you were in Warhol's world of fame for 15 minutes. But what better time in your life to be a little famous than as a teenager with all that angst? As far as I know this movie is out of print. I've searched for years to find it and finally did at good, old Amazon. If you've seen it and like it...buy it now. The supply is extremely limited.

A Great Movie,
This review is from: In Crowd, The (1988) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I really liked this movie. I came across it on my movie channel and thought it would be interesting to watch. The second I saw the opening sceen I laughed my ass off and couldn't stop watching it. I watched it over and over (I have something like a tivo) again. I loved the music Esp the song they play when Del first dances on the show. I can't think of the title, I wish they had made or remade a soundtrack for the movie.

Where's the soundtrack?,

This review is from: In Crowd, The (1988) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I loved, loved, loved this movie. I saw it a long time ago but I've never lost the joy of watching it over again. I especially loved the soundtrack to this movie and I've been looking for years for it. It has a good little story line, easy to go along with and a lot of entertaining dance segments. It almost makes you wish you could have been there in that era on one of those dance shows and cut loose. I simply enjoyed this movie from beginning to end but I really wish there was a soundtrack available. If anybody has a copy of all the songs from the movie please post it. I really would like to look for them.

This movie is one that is a must see for all but especially for those growing up in the 60's and remember the dance shows from either being a participant or watching the shows on T.V.
