Book Description

****BOOK FOUR OF THE BLOOD SKIES SERIES****
Eric Cross and his team have been to hell and back, but their journey isn't over yet.

Marooned in the remote criminal city of Blacksand, the only way for the mercenaries to get home is to help a local crime boss protect his territories from the Ebon Cities.

To complicate matters, Danica Black is also being hunted by The Revengers, a powerful band of corrupt prison wardens, while Cross himself is trapped in the Whisperlands, a realm of darkness controlled by a cadre of evil mages known as the Shadow Lords.

The team will battle their way through corroding wastelands and deadly vampire outposts, but even their considerable skills might not be enough to save them from the cruel machinations of the Shadow Lord's mysterious master, a malevolent creature who has manipulated their destinies right from the beginning...

5.0 out of 5 stars Reap what you sow August 19, 2012
By Wist
Format:Kindle Edition
In the fourth book of the Blood Skies series, it's a reap what you sow as everything Eric's team has been through so far comes back for them ten fold. It's a brutal venture across two entirely different battlefields to reach one goal. Danica and Cross have to stop a power that has been waiting for its chance to rise, while the Southern Claw and Ebon Cities wear each other down. Their feelings for each other might just give them the fighting chance.

If their hands weren't full before, they are now. And they won't get to use their spirits as much as they want to, taking their fights down to swords and gunfire. Danica definitely gets tough heroine of the year award, because she has proven that she can withstand anything thrown at her that doesn't go straight for her heart. Although, I don't think I would feel comfortable with her driving me anywhere... Ever.

There's a whole bunch of new monsters on the field, more vicious than ever, and relentless enemies from the past who haven't forgotten them. And Kane, omg! *cuts out a paragraph of spoilers*

More secrets to The Black and the magic that has bound itself to humanity is revealed as well. I will be anxiously waiting to see what happens next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dripping with shadows August 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The fourth book in the BLOOD SKIES series is deep, dark, and intense. The beast of The Black leaves its mark once again; some are going to live and some are going to die. CROWN OF ASH is more cerebral than the other books in the series. Mr. Montano gives the reader a closer look inside the minds of Danica Black, Eric Cross, and Michael Kane; feeling their pain and heartache as they continue fighting to protect their bond of friendship. CROWN OF ASH pushes the reader deep into the dark recesses of the three characters' minds with remarkable imagery. Mr. Montano does not skimp on the blood, guts, and battles either.

The pace moves slightly slower than the first three books, but I find this a good thing. Cross's body is still in a comatose state while his mind is slowly dredging through the shadows of the Whisperlands, trying to find his purpose without losing himself to the madness of the shadows. The psychological nature of the fourth story requires the reader to slow down to Cross's mental pace while The Ebon Cities, The Grey Clan, and The Revengers comb the Whisperlands for the clue to becoming (or destroying) the all-controlling entity of The Black. Is this piece of the puzzle what they really need though? Some major pieces are set in motion in CROWN OF ASH, and I see this one as the "eye of the storm" before all hell breaks loose.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, I found a new series to love. 4.5 Stars! August 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The world created by Montano is felt in every scene. I was anxious to see where the new book took me, and I wasn't disappointed. I'm not one for long winded reviews, so the short version of my review follows.

The landscapes painted by Montano are once again superb. I found myself in the scenes, feeling the darkness of it all, and that's a good thing. Vivid description is the key to me enjoying fantasy worlds. If I can't find myself walking next to the characters, I lose interest. With that being said, I finished this book quickly, for me, and that means I was walking next to the characters.

I love Danica. She is one tough lady. The monsters that the characters face are unique and again, I love the descriptive style of the writer.

Without going through the entire plot, I recommend you purchase this book and find out for yourself. I don't like to do reviews like book reports. I tell you about the things I like, and sometimes the things I don't, and then let you know if it's worth hitting the buy button in my opinion.

Buy this book if you have enjoyed the others in the series, and buy the series if you haven't had the opportunity to meet the characters in the Blood Skies.

*I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Though after the release, I did purchase a copy in order to support a great author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this series
This series should, in my opinion, be started from the first book. Really loved it but it is kind of depressing that the group's situation doesn't get any better.

More About the Author

Steven Montano fell out of the sky one day and landed behind an accountant's desk. Rather than write novels about his experiences in an alternate post-apocalyptic world besieged by vampires, he decided to reconcile accounts and calculate journal entries. He still writes in his spare time.
