Half a story (literally),

This Stephen Hunt novel (only available used) is a great romp, enormously fun to read, but ends literally in mid-story, with an advertisement for the next book, "The Fortress In the Frost". That sequel was never published, although, according to the interview at [...], it was completed. Given that, I really felt I couldn't give this story more than three stars... but it's a heck of a three star book, among my favorites of his work.
It's basically a picaresque fantasy novel set in an alternate medieval world: the background story is that a corrupt Roman emperor's magic changed the world. It's humorous and fast paced, altogether enjoyable until you realize that absolutely none of the plot lines will be resolved. Here's hoping that it comes back into print and that he publishes the end of the story. |
