The author explains things that most books leave out .

Wayne Drake's book "Crown Molding and Trim" was the ONLY book that addressed installation of crown molding in complex settings like cathedral ceilings.

The book is very easy, straight-forward reading; I found the instructions, suggestions, and explanations to be clear and concise.

I am a cabinetmaker/woodworker who decided to get into trim carpentry. After purchasing dozens of books to learn the trade secrets I must say that this book is simply the best . I heard that there were photo issues but this has been cleared up. My book is in color. The author explains things that most books leave out . These are really important things too. The teaching methods are logical and precise with great photos. Really if you want to learn the art of crown moulding this is the book. I cant really see the scale on the True Angle so I purchased a digital one. I did have a few questions and I emailed the author and he called my home 3 times and explained everything to me! He was very polite and helpful . His main concern was he just wanted to speak to the person doing the work as to avoid confusion. This is the best book on this subject and remember this is an art so although the book is great you need to be realistic it takes practice like anything else. Thanks Wayne for a great book!!

After many years of marriage, my wife and I have worked out an accommodation. She comes up "honey do's" and I figure out how to get the project done. Recently, she decided that we should install crown molding in most of the rooms of our house. I had never done crown molding before, so I had to figure out how to do it. This was especially challenging in the master suite which has cathedral ceilings and complex angles along the cathedral runs (pillars protruding into the room at different angles).
I did quite a bit of research to learn how to install crown molding and purchased several books on the subject. Wayne Drake's book "Crown Molding and Trim" was the ONLY book that addressed installation of crown molding in complex settings like cathedral ceilings. Note: I purchased the book from Wayne's web site. From the other reviews, I think the version from Amazon is not as good quality.
I started with the simple rooms (flat horizontal ceilings) and worked up to the cathedral ceilings. When I'd come to a complex corner, I'd grab Wayne's book and check out his explanation of how to "turn the corner". The organization of the book is very logical, with lots of examples of different situations that you'd run into in a cathedral ceiling.
I simply could not have done the complex areas of my home without the instructions in this book.
One caveat. Installing a piece of wood at an angle to the wall, when the wall itself goes at a number of different angles is not a simple or easy task. While Wayne explains things well and gives many examples, you have to visualize things in three dimensions, which is not easy or natural. Take the time to read and understand the material. Then refer back to specific examples when you hit problem areas. Trial fit the corner with scrap material first. With this book and a bit of care on your part, you truly can "Install it like a PRO".

A year after divorcing my husband and unwilling to sell my house but anxious to give it a new look I decided to renovate it and make it look like a palace worth of a princess. I had always wanted crown molding in my house, but my then husband was not a handy man nor did he want to pay the outrageous expense of professional installation. Last Christmas I treated myself with a nice compound miter saw, a miter saw table and a handful of books on crown molding. I also bought my first piece of molding to start practicing. I was warned by friends and coworkers that my 20 years of experience in accounting were not going to help me with this project. But I was determined; after all I was a free woman and didn't have to account anyone for my failures. After reading many books and practicing the infamous "coping" I was in tears. It looked like if my dog had done it.
My pride was at stake. I could sense the mixed looks of compassion and laughter of my friends and, especially that of my ex.

Most of the books only devoted a couple of pages to crown molding making it look as simple as baking Christmas cookies. Deep in my heart I new somewhere someone held the key to do this project in a humane, rational, and logical way. Coping had to be the way the Stone Age man did his cave trimming.
Searching the net was when I came across Wayne Drake's site. After reading excerpts from his book I new his book was the answer to my prayers. I bought it along with his angle measurement tools. I recommend also buying the templates. I didn't and I end up wasting a lot of time and trim. I have done all of my four rooms upstairs only with the help of my 12 year old son. I am waiting to save some money to do the first floor where I am planning to install fancier molding.

This is easily one of the most important books in my construction library. The book has been updated and the pictures, tables, and illustrations are crystal clear. The book takes the guesswork out of complex miters for baseboard, chair rails, crown molding, and other trim projects. I plan on ordering some of the author's other products such as the laminated charts, molding templates, and perhaps one or two of the True Angel tools. I'll attach the laminated charts and molding templates directly to the miter saw and portable stand... right where I need them. As a decorating contractor, complex miters are a daily headache. Incorrect angles result in excess waste materials and labor every time we have to redo a section of trim. The book makes cutting complex miters easy (easier?) for all my crew -- master and apprentice carpenters alike. Overall grade: AAA+++
