These smoked fish are the standard by which all sardines should be judged. At a $1 a can, if you buy a case, they are a real bargin. They cost $2.18 per can at Ralphs. I prefer to eat them right out of the can with crackers. These small fish don't live long enough to contain mercury, so they are a good source of Omega-3 fish oil. I eat a can a day for lunch. Return the bar code to Crown Prince and they will send you a 50 cent coupon per can. I use them at Ralphs when I forget to reorder from Amazon.

I have to say you guys go to the max, I got a 24 pack of these, as my husband loves them, and the first batch came in damaged. I contacted an amazon rep and asked what I could do. He said,"Don't
worry, we'll send out replacements. I had told him eight tins were leaking, so I assumed that I would get 8 in return. To my surprise and your credit I got another box of 24. I commend your fast replacement of damaged goods and will definitely shop with you again!

These boneless fillets of herring are great right out of the can for a quick tasty snack. They are as good as Reese's or better & are less expensive. Can't beat the free shipping also.

Kipper size,
This review is from: Crown Prince Kipper Snacks, 3.25-Ounce Packages (Pack of 24) (Grocery)
Has anyone noticed in the last 8 months or so, the size of the Kipper fish has gotten smaller, and the quantity of juice in the can has gotten larger (for weight purpose) ? The fish used to cover the whole can, the last few I have opened have quite a bit of air in there.
Time to contact Crown Prince and let them know we know and see the difference ? Been eating these things for a while, and there has been a very noticeable difference in the quantity of the contents.

I love a small amount of these Kippers for breakfast instead of sausage. With grits and eggs, its my favorite breakfast. I even drizzle a bit of the oil over the grits. Yum! the bonus of the Omega-3 is great too.

BROKEN TABS,

I just received my first order of this product. (06/29/10) The tab broke off on the first can. I contacted Amazon CSR and he suggested opening another can. The tab broke off on this can too! Sure I know that I can take a pair of pliers or a can opener and try to finish opening this product subject to injury or splashing contents. The thing about this is, it has been know since 2008 that this product has a problem with the tabs breaking off. My question is why is this product still being sold knowing that the cans are defective? I have seen many products taken off Amazon while problems are investigated and or fixed. Why has this product continued to be sold knowing it is defective? Up until this order I have been eating King Oscar brand and I have never had a tab break off. I ordered Crown Prince to save and ended up losing. Amazon is picking the product up for evaluation and is sending a replacement order. I don't expect to see any changes in the quality of the container this soon. I just want Amazon to do something to improve the quality of what they merchandise and stop wasting my time having to contact them and having to deal with reshipping the products back to them.

** After writing the review below, giving the product one star, and complaining directly to Crown Prince, I was contacted by Crown Prince and advised that they would take ownership of the problem and work through Amazon to come up with a solution. Crown Prince has been redeemed. Eat the Kippers!
I have eaten Crown Prince Kipper Snacks for years and these as good as always but the current packaging is VERY defective. Crown Prince knows of the defect and says they are working on a fix but WILL NOT replace the product or offer anything except a somewhat lame apology. The problem is that the "pop top" ring just pops off and then you have to open the can with a can opener and some can openers don't work on these cans. Once you've spattered fish oil all over the cabinet, you will look for another brand. The new packaging may be in stores so I'd go that route instead of buying 24 defective cans from Amazon. At least your grocery store will give you a refund or replacement.

These are excellent kippers, about as good as they get. I find Kippers are much better than sardines and more versatile as they work well in salads, on rye, on crackers, etc. They pack well and store well too. Buying them by the case from amazon is much cheaper than any local store and they get delivered to my door. In total, this is real value and a good deal.

390mg SALT/SODIUM = STILL TOO HIGH,

This review is from: Crown Prince Kipper Snacks, 3.25-Ounce Packages (Pack of 24) (Grocery)
390mg SODIUM/SALT PER 3.25oz TIN/CAN "STILL TO HIGH" Based on some of the canned fish products Ive reviewed ; Herring is "ABOVE AVERAGE" Fish Product , so I give it 2 STARS BECAUSE OF THE "HIGHER SODIUM/SALT" WHICH "RUINS/DEGRADES" THE "A" "ABOVE AVERAGE/QUALITY" FISH(HERRING).

Years ago I found this brand of kippered snacks to be the best on the shelf in taste, consistency, and all around quality. Then, perhaps it cost a little more I can't recall,it just disappeared off all the store shelves. Years later I got a computer and the first time I got online I searched for "kippered snacks" and got what appeared to be a porn site so I gave up for a long time. Tried again in a year or so with better luck. Got the right brand but it was low sodium and needed salt for good flavor. This time and last I got what I wanted so I ordered another case in the chance it disappears from online. It seems this happens to a lot of good products that may charge a bit more to get better quality, and people tend to think the only difference is price. For example, soda crackers. I now buy mine at a restaurant supply outlet where pairs are individually wrapped for freshness. I used to buy them in tall square cans but they disappeared off the shelves as well. Such are the costs of living too long and entering what is called modern times.
