Book Description

April 26, 2000
They are the women who have shaped or been shaped by war and peace, glory and exile, fame and obscurity. In a world rapidly discarding the system of monarchy as obsolete and wasteful, these twenty one queens, empresses, and princesses must scale challenges from both the outside and the inside. Representing ten different monarchies from around the world, some as different from each other as night and day, the ranks of these royal women include such famed figures as Princess Diana and Queen Sofia, but also their obscure counterparts like Princess Fawzia of Egypt. This informal guide explores the background and history of these womens monarchies, as well as their own personal lives and legacies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, May 20, 2000

This review is from: Crown of Venus: A Guide to Royal Women Around the World (Paperback)
The author of this book has done a beautiful job of bringing together so many important women from around the world into a collection like this. There is very interesting information about Farah Diba, Regina Noor, and of course our beloved Sofia of Spain. The best part is the background given for each monarchy Before the author goes into the life of the woman he tells about her country and its royal family's history. I should have liked to see more on Rania of Jordan and Beatrix of Holland, two very important figures the author left out. I want to thank the author for telling the stories of so many women I knew so little about, and also to my friend Elena Bencomo, who will love this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall look at contemporary royal women; some minor slips, May 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Crown of Venus: A Guide to Royal Women Around the World (Paperback)
Books about living royal women other than the dysfunctional British royals are not exactly commonplace, so this book was a welcome surprise. It's a nice overview of many royals who are skipped over in the US, although the author dwells on some details for too long, and skims over others (particularly in the British royalty section, although that may be a relief). The centerpiece, obviously, of the book is the Iran section which details the role of three of its Pahlavi queens and also the Princess Ashraf. Although I certainly would have liked more in some sections (particularly the Greek), and less in others (such as the long citation of Queen Noor's achievements, which no one needs to know), overall the book was a nice examination and provided some interesting details.

5.0 out of 5 stars An important book, May 25, 2000
This review is from: Crown of Venus: A Guide to Royal Women Around the World (Paperback)
I have read the book writen by Mr. Jeffrey Lee and I think I must congratulate him for his enormous and interesting work done. His book approach us the figures of some current Queens and explains their roles and current position. A very interesting book for those who try to know a little more about the monarchies around the world. I specially recomend the part of the book devoted to H.I.M. Empress Farah Pahlavi of Iran. She is, according the opinion ot the author and my own one, the most stood out royal woman. Reed it, please, you will enjoy and learn many things about many women who will win over you and your hearts.
