With exensive experience as a contestant in numerous pageants between 1976 and 1983, and as a pageant director from 1983 to present, I have first-hand knowledge from all angles on what it takes to become a competitive participant and how to have fun in the process! I can tell you that winning is not simply based on beauty alone. A contestant who is blessed with good looks and talent may not have the temperament to be a beauty queen. It is not the girl who has the most expensive wardrobe or sophisticated appearance that can win over the judges. It takes much more that a pretty face to win, and The Crowning Touch can help you to reach your goal and enjoy the journey there.

Anna Stanley's insight as a contestant, judge, and director makes her book an outstanding guide for contestants. Her coverage on each phase of competition has thoroughly prepared me for my state and national crown. The appendix of resources serves as an effective aid for contestants with their pre-pageant packing and research. "The Crowning Touch" is a valuable reference source for all pageant affiliates and would be a wonderful edition to your library.

Great for beginners great for professionals!!,

I only wish I had read this book before I went to the pageant. It is one to swear by! The author gives outstanding advise on how to tackle your platform, how to stun your audience in talent, and how to charm the judges in evening gown. The author get's deep down to every detail, inlcuding your stockings!! The author also has wonderful quick research appendix's in the back of the book just in case you need a quick refresher course. I know because of this book I'll definitely win next year, and The Crowning Touch gave me the confidence to do it!

Although it includes a few helpful tips (such as the list of interview questions in the back), most of the information does not go beyond common sense. The frequent typos and poor writing give the impression that the author simply sat down and wrote the first thoughts that sprang to mind, without bothering to go back and polish her work.
