4.0 out of 5 stars Evangelically minded, solidly biblical view about hell., October 28, 2002
This review is from: Crucial Questions about Hell (Paperback)
Hell is not a fashionable place to talk about these days in evangelical Christian circles, but Jesus warned that more people were heading there than not (Matthew 7:13-14).

Ajith Fernando, a native-born Sri Lankan evangelist, provides answers to the crucial questions Hell, citing every pertinent Bible verse from the new testament, and many from the old. He explains how Jesus and the prophets spoke about Hell and judgment, and how we today can incorporate it into a loving Gospel presentation.

I also recommend the author's other popular title "Speaking the Truth in Love".

5.0 out of 5 stars A Short, Concise Work About a Neglected Doctrine, August 17, 2009
This review is from: Crucial Questions about Hell (Paperback)
I truly appreciate Ajith Fernando's short but concise work on the doctrine of Hell. This doctrine has largely been neglected by many evnagelicals and even those who believe in the doctrine of Hell largely ignore it in their teachings and the place of Hell has become nothing more than a curse word in the English language.

However, Fernando's book does a good job of presenting clear biblical arguments for Hell being a very real and eternal place. He covers the entire Bible looking at major passages about Hell and in the process he not only builds a case for an eternal place of torment for those outside of Christ but he also shows the goodness of God in His Son that is meant to lead us to repentance (Romans 2:4). God does not will anyone to Hell (2 Peter 3:9) but humanity rejects God and His sovereignty and in turn substitute the one true God (1 Cor. 8:4) for false gods and idols (Romans 1:18-32). Hell is necessary because of the holiness of God and the aweful reality and ugliness of sin before God's holy eyes.

This book will help you better understand both the doctrine of Hell, why it is necessary for Christians to believe in Hell, and yet it exalts the Lord Jesus Christ by showing how great God's love is for us in that He sent His Son to set us free from sin and from this place called Hell (1 John 3:8). I highly recommend it.
