5.0 out of 5 stars Crucify my heart
I admit I have a soft spot for female fronted hard rock bands like Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, and even Evanescence. I came across Lullacry by accident. I was reading issue #21 of OUTBURN magazine this past summer and they had a review of "Crucify My Heart". Curiousity piqued. A few months later, I threw caution to the wind and decided to order "Crucify My Heart" via Amazon...

2.0 out of 5 stars Jack off Jill meets Garbage
This is alright. I say the vocals are a mix between Garbage and Jack off jill. It has a very teenage feel to it.

A few months later, I threw caution to the wind and decided to order "Crucify My Heart" via Amazon. I just got the cd today and am currently listening to the cd. I am definitely enjoying the melodic yet loud, crunchy guitars and the sweet vocals of new vocalist Tanja. Yeah, the loud, crunchy guitars is a throwback to '80s hair metal and the cd a bit more polished than necessary but if you listen with an open mind and get passed those things, "Crucify My Heart" is a 43 minute rollicking good time. Every song on this cd is hard not to sing along to. They are all catchy. Rock ballads in general are pretty cheesy but Lullacry makes songs like "Unchain" very enjoyable to listen to. There wasn't a single song on "Crucify My Heart" didn't like. I personally wouldn't dare compare Lullacry to Lacuna Coil, Evanescence maybe. No matter what, "Crucify My Heart" is a good solid rock album I will be enjoying for years to come.

**** - FOUR STARS
==================
Anyone who enjoys Evanescence, should certainly give "Crucify My Heart" a listen. Lullacry is another very solid female fronted Rocker Metal outfit. Very catchy, and quite heavy at times too...

I would have to say this is alittle less radio oriented than the music Evanescence has released, and it's got a harder edge, but the overall feel is quite similar. Both bands are a great listen, and I have a hard time choosing between "Crucify" and "Fallen" when I want to hear this kind of Metal....

I'm truly a huge Lacuna Coil fan, and I've been searching high and low for something similar to them. Needless to say, I've had a very hard time accomplishing that with the exception of a few bands {Theatre Of Tragedy / Leave's Eyes / After Forever}. Since I was reading and hearing great things about Lullacry, I decided to give this a shot. I was not disappointed, and I'm sure I'll purchace more from them in the future....

Lullacry is not Goth Metal, I'd classify this with Evanescence and their "Rocker Metal" lable. When you want to hear something fun and cool, this is a perfect disc to spin....

RECOMMENDED

5.0 out of 5 stars This is better then you think!, April 29, 2003

I have been listening to this cd a lot lately. I can tell you this is a great cd. It's more in lines with Lacuna Coil then some cheap copy of Lacuna Coil who lands a song on a soundtrack if you know what i mean. Anyway, The songs are so good and the new singer Tanya is better then the last singer they had with the same first name. Lullacry have finally landed paydirt on this their third cd. Check them out more on here or on www.lullacry.com One of my favorite new cds! Let's just hope this finnish band finally gets a chance to play the US!

5.0 out of 5 stars goth-n-roll, December 25, 2004

following in the tradition of hard-rock crossed with glam rock crossed with goth-rock, lullacry created a beautiful album with "crucify my heart." by chance, i got "pitch black emotions" played when i was listening to my metal for the masses vol. iii compilation. immediately i knew i needed to grab that album, so i turned to the playlist and found out it was lullacry. her voice is so sensual yet innocent. it's a poppy, vally girl crossed with sexy gothic queen of the damned attitude. this is not a typical goth record, it's about romance no doubt; but the music is intense. it is hard-rock crossed with glam-metal of the 80's. you can find a lot of beautiful stuff in this album. "crucify my heart" is an awesome song, "don't touch the flame" is gorgeous, and the singer just sounds so cute when she shouts "f--- you, anyways" on "pitch black emotions." this album has no relation to cds of HIM or 69 Eyes, it is two completely different sounds, but if you're into those anti-romance lyrics, this is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't get this one first ...., January 24, 2004

This cd was the first Lullacry I had ever heard. I fell in love with the cd as soon as I got it. The vocals and hard rock/metal were perfect. Tanja sings so perfect. That's why I figured when I ordered "Be My God" I would get another gem. And I was ready to show Lullacry to my friend, and I did not have "Crucify My Heart" with me, and had just bought "Be My God". However, when I put in "Be My God" I was taken aback by the vocals on that album. I immediately took it out, and started comparing photos and such. Both singers were named "Tanja" and "Tanya", I figured that was a mistake, they looked a little similar, and sounded a little similar ... but ... I could've swore they changed singers, I looked it up, and sure enough the Tanya from "Be My God" is not the Tanja on this album. Therefore I must stress this, Tanja sings far better than Tanya, even though she may not be as hot. Also the music on this cd is much, much heavier, louder, etc. This cd is so much better than its predecessor that I was almost tempted to sell "Be My God" to a store that took used cd's, however, I found that when I put away "Crucify My Heart" and kind of kept Tanja out of my mind, I could listen to the Lullacry formally fronted by Tanya no problem and enjoy it. I have now figured out how to appreciate Tanya, but it was a close call ... I highly recommend that you buy "Be My God" before you get this, because that way you will be stepping up in quality, not stepping down, and you'll have learned to enjoy "Be My God" before hearing this hard rock/metal-awesome-chic-voiced band on this masterpiece they've made. Tanja is sooooo much better than Tanya, that it could prove damaging if you were to do what I did (get "Be My God" second). But this cd itself is superb in every area, and you can play it LOUD. That's all bye

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great, August 15, 2005

Stick with Lacuna Coil or Nightwish. This CD is good but there's not much creative departure from the various tracks. There are better CDs out there for this type of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful chick-rock album!, December 21, 2003

I have not heard this album in its entirety yet, but I can already tell this is a good one. I first discovered this band on a Century Media Europe website, where I downloaded an available MP3 of "Don't Touch The Flame", and haven't regreted that download yet. I wouldn't dare compare this music to Evanescence, at least nothing I have heard of it thus far. It's mostly of a mixture of The Donnas and Lacuna Coil. Now, I know some eyes are popping out of some heads upon reading "The Donnas", but aside from their recent MTV push, The Donnas have a pretty good rock-groove. Unless you're idea of hard rock fronted by women is a bunch of freaks who are bent on making every music fan cringe and causing countless goth-wannabe high school kids to cut their arms everyday after school (referring to Kittie, of course). Lacuna Coil is a bit too symphonic/melodic/just plain slow to be an accurate comparison for this band, and The Donnas are a bit too agressive and femdom. I would give this album the nod, especially for a newer hard rock group that sports the Century Media label. Possibly the best rock band on Century Media save Sentenced? We'll see after I hear more of this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Touch The Flame, January 14, 2009
This review is from: Crucify My Heart (Audio CD)
Lullacry is:
Tanja Lainio
Sami Vauhkonen
Sauli Kivilahti
Kimmo "Heavy" Hiltunen
Jukka Outinen

Heavy, fast, and melodic. This album has little to no synthesizers. It reminds me of an updated version Lita Ford or Vixen. Without keyboards, this is not Gothic. However, it is a good alternative to a fimiliar sound. While I prefer bands like Mortal Love and Within Temptation who do use synthesizers, Lullacry is a very good band with a talented vocalist.

Tanja Lainio sounds especially good on Don't Touch The Flame and Pitch Black Emotions.

This is a five star product-

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Old Fashioned Hard Rock From Finland, August 24, 2005
This review is from: Crucify My Heart (Audio CD)
Coming at you with a healthy dose of Hard Rock hooks come Finland's Lullacry. With their release of "Crucify My Heart" (courtesy of Century Media Records) you get some catchy tunes and solid rock and roll musicianship. I once saw the group labeled as Gothic and as I focused on the release I have to inform you that this is incorrect. Singer Tanja has a little more in common with Amy Lee than with Tarja Turunen or Liv Kristine and the music is clearly Hard Rock and not the Doom-laden atmospheric dreariness that is associated with the Gothic genre. I have to tell you that most of the record is straight ahead stuff with a decent amount of tracks that are easily remembered and enjoyed. In particular I favored the first 4 tracks as they just seemed to stick with me as I reviewed the CD. Tanja is also a very beautiful girl which helps sell the band just a little bit more in this day and age where all bands again need to be image conscious. The band itself is lined out with Sauli Kivilahti (guitar), Heavy (bass), Jukka Outinen (drums) and Sami Vauhkonen (lead guitar). Their playing is pretty much straightforward and shows tightness but no real experimentation musically on the release. The drums remain in 4/4 time and while there are some nice lead guitar solos around the course of the record there is not a lot of raving to do on them.

You will find that much of the CD holds the same sort of groove throughout in the musical sense and with choruses not being exact copies but sometimes sounding a little too similar. I did enjoy the piece and feel fans of groups like Lita Ford or Doro might also like them for a little change of pace. It is my hope that they amp this group up a little more on a follow-up or they risk falling by the wayside far too quickly.
