3.0 out of 5 stars I like the movie and the CD has a lot of good songs.
I like this cd because of the Counting Crows song "Colorblind" and the Craig Armstrong song, "This Love". The entire cd is full of great songs. It has become one I listen to a lot.

This movie is my 2nd favorite movie of all time (following Jawbreaker), and I really wanted the soundtrack because of some of the songs in the movie I liked, so I finally bought it, and I love it, it's awesome. Here's my review of all the songs, and where they play in the movie:

1.) "Every You Every Me" by Placebo-I think this is my 2nd favorite song on the soundtrack, it's really good, they're a talented band. This song obviously plays in the very beginning when it shows Sebastian off on his way to therapy.

2.) "Praise You" by Fatboy Slim-This song is great, I love it. Who dosen't? This song plays when Annette and Sebastian are in the car driving home from the old folks home.

3.) "Coffee and TV" by Blur-This is a really really good song, I love it. It plays at the infamous kissing scene between Kathryn and Cecile.

4.) "Bedroom Dancing" by Day One-This is a good song, a good dancing song. This plays after Sebastian and Cecile...ummm....you know.

5.) "Colorblind" by Counting Crows-This is a good, slow song to listen to if you're stressed out, at least that's what I think. This plays when Sebastian goes to the train station to see Annette again and they end you...well...you know

6.) "Ordinary Life" by Kristen Barry-This is my favorite song on the CD, it's a really good song, she's a talented singer, and I love it! This plays when Annette goes into the pool room to go talk to Sebastian.

7.) "Comin' Up From Behind" by Marcy Playground-This is a good song, I like Marcy Playground, they're really good. This plays when Sebastian goes to Blaine's house to talk to Greg.

8.) "Secretly" by Skunk Anansie-I don't like this song, at all. No offense to the people who like it, but I find it annoying, the singer really irritates me. This song plays at the ending credits.

9.) "This Love" by Craig Armstrong and Elizabeth Fraser-Very good, slow, love song. It's kind of sad in a way, but very good. This plays when Sebastian is either taking a walk or when it shows Annette reading his journal.

10.) "You Could Make a Killing" by Aimee Mann-Very very good song, I never knew who good a singer Aimee Mann was, but I really like her. This song plays when Annette is reading Sebastian's journal and he's walking downtown.

11.) "Addictive" by Faithless-This song kinda freaked me out at first with the line "I have a demon for a wife.." but then I ended up liking it. I can't remember where this song plays in the movie, but I remember hearing it in there.

12.) "Trip On Love" by Abra Moore-This is a good song, the singer has a cute voice. This plays when Cecile sneaks over to Sebastian's to write Ronald a letter.

13.) "You Blew Me Off" by Bare Jr.-This is such an awesome song, I really like it. This plays when it Sebastian is at Blain'es house when Sebastian is talking about Annette.

14.) "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve-Very, Very, Very good song!! I love it, it's just such an instant classic. This plays at the end after everyone hates Kathryn.

Well...There's my review of the Cruel Intentions soundtrack. If you haven't bought it, you really should, but more importantly, see the movie first!

5.0 out of 5 stars Les liaisons dangereuses, June 30, 2004
By
Charlotte (Michigan, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cruel Intentions: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Possibly the best soundtrack in history. One day, as I was reading 'The Crimson Petal and the White' I thought, what would be a soundtrack bound to have sexy, fun songs that I can just listen to when I want?

It didn't take me long to think, 'Cruel Intentions', of course.

So I went to my KaZaa, booted it up, and looked up the movie. The first song that jumped out at me was 'Comin' Up From Behind' by Marcy Playground - I love the song 'Sex and Candy', so I downloaded it right away.

WOW.

It was an amazing, fun, sexy song, just what I wanted, and to this day one of my favorite. Out of 10, I'd give it a 20. I love that song. So I immediately bought the CD and, wow. The entire album just blew me away.

1. Every Me Every You by Placebo
This song really, honestly does set the mood for the whole CD, and gawd, is it fun to sing along to. One of the standout tracks on the album, and that is saying something. I honestly put this on repeat and listened to it for an hour straight when I first heard it.

2. Praise You - Fatboy Slim
Oh, I remembered this song. Hard not to. Whether not not you can listen to it depends upon whether or not you suffocate under techno and whether you're in the mood to be happy for not. I think it's a lot of fun, but sometimes I just can't listen to it. Some people have told me it's their favorite off of the album, so I'll leave you to your own judgement on this one.

3. Coffee and TV - Blur
Lovely. Simply lovely. This is the type of song you can just stick in your CD player and relax to. It's not as upbeat as some others, but it really doesn't have to be.

4. Bedroom Dancing - Day One
The lyrics to this song are SO AWESOME. Oh wow. When I first heard it, they were so cool, I was laughing out of sheer awe. It's very tongue-in-cheek and sexy, and I simply adore it. All of my friends seem to favor this song - I don't blame them.

5. Colorblind - Counting Crows
Sad, slow, and beautiful. I plan to, at some point, find a karaoke version of this song (or a piano piece for it) and perform it. It's lovely, and the fact that it's sad doesn't actually offset it from the album at all. This is a perfect song for a rainy day.

6. Ordinary Life - Kristen Barry
I don't listen to this song as often as some others, but I do love it. It's got lovely lyrics and lovely instruments, and I absolutely LOVE the sound of her voice. It's mellow, compared to some of the others, and not the best song, but it's fun nevertheless.

7. Comin' Up From Behind - Marcy Playground
I could go on for hours about how much I love this song. The guitar at the beginning and the harmonies and the LYRICS, oh my God. I adore this song. Possibly my favorite song. YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS SONG.

8. Secretly - Skunk Anansie
I still don't know if that's a guy or a girl singing, and the lyrics 'You had to do some one else' always make me smirk, but in a good way. I don't always listen to this song because I don't like the guitar solo, but the rest of it isn't bad at all.

9. This Love - Craig Armstrong
Beautiful, even if she says 'love' a frightening amount of times. It's a happy love song, not like the rest of them, and I actually normally skip over it for that reason. I'm not a 'happy love song' person, especially since it's the saddest sounding happy love song I've ever heard. It makes me feel nostalgic, and I don't like nostalgia, but I won't deny that it is very beautiful, and there's a high chane that YOU might love it.

10. You Could Make a Killing - Aimee Mann
This song is Sebastian's theme. It really is. It makes me smile. I'm not going to say much about it, just that you should really listen to this song, because it will make you smile. I promise.

11. Addictive - Faithless
THE MOST FUN SONG. EVER. Oh wow. Other people have said they don't like this song, but I LOVE it. It's more chanting than singing, so it's really fun to chant along with, especially since the words just flow off of your lips like rain. I put this one repeat often as well.

12. Trip On Love - Abra Moore
This girl's voice creeps me out. Seriously. But the lyrics are fun to quote and stick on banners and stuff, so I listen to it for inspiration.

13. You Blew Me Off - Bare Jr.
This song makes me laugh more than any of the others. I mean, come on; "You blew me off and turned me OOOOOOOON!!!!" Yeah. But nevertheless, I like to listen to it because, what can I say, I love to laugh, and this song does it for me. It's really fun.

14. Bitter Sweet Symphony - The Verve
I don't listen to this song for one very basic reason: The violin riff gets stuck in my head ever. time. I. listen. to. it. But it is a really great song, so if I'm brave and prepared to get something else stuck in my immediately afterwards so it doesn't annoy me, I'll listen to it :-P

I really do hope you buy this soundtrack. It's an amazing listen, and you would do good to have it.

Love,
~*Charlotte

5.0 out of 5 stars A great mix of tempo's and artists, July 22, 2004
This review is from: Cruel Intentions: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
While watching the movie a few of the songs on this cd stood out to me, obviously "colorblind" and "bittersweet symphony". It wasnt until we started to listen to this at work that I really was able to appreciate all this cd has to offer.
When you listen to a cd multiple times a day you really get to test how good it is. If it isnt good at all you can only listen to it once. If its ok maybe you can listen to it a couple times a week. This cd however stayed in rotation several times in the same day and a couple days a week.
There are enough different styles on here to really please any mood, from uptempo fatboy slim and faithless to the counting crows beautiful piano.
This really is a great cd whether or not you like the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Soundtrack, September 19, 1999
This review is from: Cruel Intentions: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
After seeing the movie (which I love), I wanted to buy the soundtrack because of the Counting Crow's song, "colorblind", and the Verve pipe's "bitter sweet symphony". But, after listening to the whole soundtrack from beginning to end, I was amazed at how every song was great. My personal favorites on the cd are "every you and every me", which is played during the movie's opening credits, "colorblind" (which is my absolute favorite), and "this love", which even though is very long (over 7 minutes), i never get tired of because of the gorgeous tune and haunting vocals. But all in all, every song is amazing. Even the quirky "bedroom dancing", which is just basically a guy talking about dancing, grows on you. If you don't already have this cd, it is a must in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest CD I've ever bought!, December 30, 1999
This review is from: Cruel Intentions: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This CD is just awsome. I really enjoyed listening to the music from that CD. It has everything you may need- depending on your mood-easy to listen rock ballads and a little stronger beat. If music makes you feel better when you're sad that's the perfect CD for you. I guarantee that you'll love it. The songs lyrics has deep meaning . This soundtrack gives you something to think about. If you saw Cruel intentions and you think that it was a good movie, you'll love this soundtrack.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack to a great film, January 28, 2002
This review is from: Cruel Intentions: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The problem with many soundtracks is their inclusion of songs that were 'inspired' by the movie, or are simply there to cash in on gullible buyers. This would probably be something you'd expect from many teen movie soundtracks. However, 'Cruel Intentions' was far from your average teen movie, so its soundtrack is also far from average. What's interesting is that you can hear all of the songs here in the film itself, and all of the most memorable ones are included here.

The artists here are mostly unknown, although there are several British groups here - Blur, Fatboy Slim, The Verve, Skunk Anansie - that are well known over here if not in America. This makes for an edgier soundtrack, not the usual teen pop fluff. The first track, Placebo's 'Every You, Every Me' pretty much sums up the whole mood to 'Cruel Intentions' and is a solid start to the album. Blur's 'Coffee And TV' and The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' are arguably the best songs that either group has ever made. What is refreshing about this soundtrack though is the fact that it doesn't overlly rely on a particular genre. Whilst there's plenty of rock, there's also dance from Fatboy Slim (with a track that hit Number One in the UK) and gentler pieces from the likes of Counting Crows and Aimee Mann. Aimee Mann's contribution, 'You Could Make A Killing', is a shrewd choice as it perfectly sums up the character of Sebastian. Craig Armstrong is also always a pleasure to have on any soundtrack (check out his work for 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Best Laid Plans' as well), with vocalist Elizabeth Fraser adding her ethereal vocals. Some may remember her vocals from the Massive Attack tune 'Teardrop'.

Although there are a couple of duff tracks - the inclusion of a Faithless song just doesn't fit the mood - this is on the whole one soundtrack that it well worth owning.

5.0 out of 5 stars The overlooked soundtrack of the year, March 3, 2000
This review is from: Cruel Intentions: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I bought this cd because I loved the movie, the Counting Crows, and the song "Bittersweet Symphony". At first I thought this soundtrack was like all other soundtracks, where there are little known artists with great songs, and well know artists with terrible songs, and one or two good tracks, but this cd was more than I expected. I wasn't surprised at all with the Counting Crows track "Color Blind", probaly the best and most depressing song on the cd. Other great songs include those from Kristen Barry, Aimee Mann, and Abba Moore, these three tracks are phenominal and are the strenght of the cd. They set the tone and the mood of the album. The cd most likely could of done without the contributions of Marcy Playground and Skunk Anasie which interupt the flow. The cd ends just like the movie, with The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony", which is the perfect ending to this wonderful soundtrack. This soundtrack pretty much has it all from up-beat music to quiet depressing music. If you really music similar to Counting Crows and Sarah McClocklen, then you'll probaly enjoy this album. Just because of the wonderful song by Counting Crows and the three female vocalists, this cd deserves 5 stars.

I loved this album. All the songs on it describe every moment in the movie perfectly. I'd say my favorite songs on this soundtrack are: "Colorblind" by Counting Crows and "This Love" by Craig Armstrong. The entire album is beautiful and every song is beautifully written. I hope anyone who has seen the movie buys this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Have To Praise You Like I Should, May 15, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Cruel Intentions: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
If you want to get the maximum enjoyment out of the soundtrack, I strongly reccomend you viewing the movie. You relate the music to the movie and *BhAm* you've got yourself a one-of-a-kind soundtrack. Believe me, I had always thought Cruel Intentions was a horrible movie full of teenage and rich kid mischief no regular person like you or I can have the luxury to enjoy. And it turned out I was right. But it was also so much more than that. After the first five minutes, you get completely caught up in the movie that all boundary lines are blurred.
And that's exactly how this soundtrack is. After encouragement from frequently watching this movie, I decided to check out the soundtrack.
Another great decision.
Here's a song-by-song review:
1) Placebo- Every You Every Me *Amazing* song. There's such a meaning to it, and it fits hand-in-hand with the movie. In the movie, this song is played when Sebastion, the main character, is driving to see his psychiatrist. If you really listen to the lyrics carefully, you'll see that they describe Sebastion and his entire way of life.
2) Fat Boy Slim- Praise You This is the type of song that you'd expect to listen to on the way to the beach. It's an all-around feel good song. It's perky, and more than that meaningful. If you have a significant other, you can definitely appreciate this song- "We've come a long, long way together- through the hard times and the blue. I have to celebrate you, baby- I have to praise you like I should."This song was another brilliant pick for the soundtrack. In the movie, this song is played when Sebastion and Annette Hargrove (Sebastion's bet) make their first intimate connection.
3) Blur- Coffee and TV This is one of those songs. You can't understand why the heck it's on the CD. No link to the movie whatsoever. Let's not waste anymore space on this horrible song.
4) Bedroom Dancing- Day One This is a decent "love-sux-bad". Basically it's about a guy who shrugs off a girl. Finally, he gives into a night with her. Then she blows him off after she "uses" him. This song basically describes the relationship between Sebastion and Kathryn(Sebastions' step-sister). It was played, however, when Sebastion and Cecille (yet another of the many characters in Cruel Intentions) "do it".
5)Counting Crows- Colorblind What to say? It's such a beautiful song that anyone and everyone can't relate to. It's kind of an "I'm fine without you."song. It's so peaceful. This song was played when Sebastion made his transformation from "cruel" to "good".
6) Kristen Barry- Ordinary Life. This song's alright, I suppose. It's cute and basically about falling in love. This was played when Sebastion invited Annette for a swim. Life many of the songs, it can be greatly tied in with the movie.
7) Marcy Playground- Comin' Up From Behind AHHHH!! Such a great song! You've got to have at least one of these...songs on a soundtrack! It's not civilized, it's totally inept, and it's just a "funky" song. Basically about "scorin' chicks."It's not very original, but I think it was well-placed in the soundtrack. Right in the middle. A nice break from all the mopey love songs (though they're still good). AN ALL-AROUND FEEL GOOD SONG! This song was played when Sebastion was out to "get" Greg (ANOTHER CHARACTER!).
8) Skunk Anasie- Secretly Ummmm.... it's sooo meaningless, but like many of the songs, it describes player Sebastion. But, Skunk Anansie (What a weird voice- don't you think) has a really lovely voice.
9) Craig Armstrong- This Love Back to the slow, romantic ballads. This is such a graceful song. It's about a love being unique, strange, and beautiful. It's a relaxing song (especially when something horrible's just happened to you). This was played when Sebastion and Annette were realizing just how special the other person was.
10)Aimee Mann- You Could Make A Killing It's a nice song, but I don't really understand it that well. I guess the title basically sums it up. This song was played more towards to end of the movie- you know, the "reflection" part.
11)Faithless- Addictive THIS is a wild ride. I swear! It's soo hard to comprehend. Like they said in the lyrics- "It makes no sense". But I THINK it's basically about love tormenting you but still stickin' with it. This was played when Kathryn was in the clothing store to talk to Cecille's mother (YES! I know what you're thinking........ ANOTHER CHARACTER!) about Cecille's crush on (READY FOR ANOTHER CHARACTER?! ;-) ) her music teacher, Ronald.
12) Abra Moore- Trip on Love This song is supposed to be miserable, but it's toooooo perky. Abra Moore has a nice voice, but she should use it doing something else, such as asking "Would you like fries with that?" or "Please pull up to the front". This was played when Cecille was sneaking over to Sebastion's house to write a love letter to Ronald.
13) Bare Jr.- You Blew Me Off This song is cute, a nice second-to-last song. It makes the listener wipe the tears off and start laughing. This is hilarious. It's about rejection turning him on. This basically describes Sebastion. (DUH). In summarization- GrEaT SoNg.
14) The Verve- Bittersweet Symphony WOW! What a great conclusion to a never-failing-to-delight soundtrack. It's life in a song. You can't get much better than this. Well, it's not really life in a song- it's the consequences of a do-evil-live. This was at the end when everybody finds out who Kathryn is.

OKAY~ I really reccomend you buying this CD. It's just so great. Sorry if I didn't really tell you about the movie, but I want you to find out for yourself when you watch it. CIAO!
