The graphics have moved forward, resulting in a reasonably manageable amount of pop-up, even in the four-player split-screen mode. The music and sound are significantly better than the original (which probably still is the low-water mark for music on the N64), but most of the tracks still come across in an incredibly annoying way.
Cruis'n World has a few different modes. In the standard arcade mode, you can just pick one track and race, or you can cruise the world one track at a time. In championship mode, you race over just a few tracks, but you do multiple laps on each track. Beating this mode is the key to unlocking the game's additional cars. A practice mode allows you to take on the tracks all alone, with no traffic to stand in your way, but since the game's difficulty comes from the opposing racers and not the track on its own, this mode isn't terribly useful or interesting. Multiplayer allows up to four players to select cars and race the tracks against each other.
All in all, Cruis'n World isn't a bad game, but it certainly isn't very good, either. Most of the time spent with this game will be centered around driving in first place, only to have it robbed from you by the CPU-controlled cars at the very last second. There's no room for error in your driving if you want to win, and that's perhaps what makes this such an annoying game. Rent this one, but it really isn't worth purchasing. --Jeff Gerstmann

I gotta tell ya, I played this game at my friend's house for the first time at a sleep-over and we ended up staying up until 5 in the morning playing the championship! This game is really cool, there's a lot of cars like sports cars and trucks. I like this one better than Cruis'n USA because you can go all around the world and not stay in the US! The music and graphics are also a little better and I totally think this game deserves 5 stars and is worth buying!

I don't think this game should be rated a full five stars, but I think four stars is just perfect. It's basically the same as the Cruis'n USA game, but the courses and scenery are a little better, and there are cooler places to go. The car selection is a little better too. I would definitely get this game.

One of N64's best racing games......,

I was one of the unfortunate few who purchased Cruisin USA, (the worst racing game for N64) and I had trouble believing anyone that told me to purchase the sequal. Finally, after playing the game at a friend's house, I immediately went out and bought it. Midway really woke up after bombing "USA" and created an interesting racing game. The cool cars and tracks keep you busy for hours. And surprisingly, the game can handle four players playing at once. Also, if you didn't know, the third game, Cruisin Exotica has been released. (I know, not much press) It's even better than this game. Hopefully, Midway will keep turning out sequals.....
