In 1936 Four Sea Scouts from California paddled & sailed their cedar strip canoes from Seattle, WA to Skagway, Alaska along the Inside Passage. Then it was up & over the Chilkoot Pass, along the trail of '98 to Dawson City and down the Yukon River to Circle, Alaska

4.0 out of 5 stars Historical journeys on the Inside Passage, October 6, 2007

This review is from: Cruise of the Blue Flujin (Hardcover)
This isn't a work of literary genius, it is an account of an amazing canoe trip up the Inside Passage of Alaska and Canada long before the days of high tech gear (or what we now consider high tech). It captures how settled much of the coast was in the early 1900s and how tenacious these Sea Scouts could be. An excellent read if you like self-powered epic journey books or are thinking about make the paddle from Puget Sound to Alaska yourself. It also includes a description of their short stint working aboard a classic Yukon River paddle wheeler.
